AUTUMN... now the changes (Part 143a)

AUTUMN... now the changes (Part 143a)

Even though there were still 2 days left in the ‘busy period’, lobby traffic had dropped off a lot. After the rush when the doors opened things slowed down enough for me to leave my desk and make the trip upstairs to see Moira. Because she was in a room all by herself I wasn’t that concerned about talking with her on personal stuff. When I told her that she’d have her car back by Wednesday afternoon she just sat there with her eyes wide open in total disbelief... and unable to say a word... for about 30 seconds. Then the look changed and the words started. “How can that be? You told me it was junk! You’ve got to be kidding! But I can’t pay for it!” (These aren’t her actual words but they represent her thoughts at the time) I tried to calm her down so that other workers in her department wouldn’t get involved. Somebody came to the doorway and I waved them away. It took a few minutes but I was finally able to explain what had happened and, as much as I hated to do it, told her I was paying for it. I remember, clearly, her reaction and it was the one thing I didn’t want... tears.

At that point I told her I’d see her later and as I exited the room stopped by Bette’s (her supervisor) desk to explain the situation. I won’t say she was disinterested but I couldn’t get a ‘feel’ for what she was thinking. I just hoped she wasn’t mad that I’d gotten Moira upset and took her away from her assignment. Seeing Joanie on my way back reminded me of the panties I given Laura for Joanie. I decided to make a point to catch up with Laura at some time before the end of the day. I’d  come up with a new idea as far as Laura having an answer if Joanie asked where she’d gotten them. I wasn’t crazy about what we’d originally planned and wanted to run the new idea by her.

When I got back to my desk there was a note right in the middle of it... “Call Albie!” with the telephone number under his name. It turned out to be really good news. The service bureau had come up with a solution to the name and address problem where we wouldn’t have to give up the addressograph plates for them to process. I didn’t get details but somehow I got the distinct impression that our staff might be the ones to do it. Albie had mentioned that they might be able to loan us a teller machine or two to make the entries. He said he’d work on it some more but he wanted to let me (the bank) know we wouldn’t have to give up control of the plates. It was a big relief!

Hobie got called upstairs to see Bert (the president) right before noon and was gone right through his normal lunch. If there was one thing that you could count on was seeing Hobie going out the door right after the noon siren went off so I knew it was something important. As curious as I was I just wouldn’t ask him, hoping that he’d share whatever it was about but he didn't. Laura and Joanie had gotten into the habit of going to lunch together but I noticed Joanie going out the back door by herself. A few minutes later Laura headed for the front door so I called her over. We were the only ones in the ‘platform’ area so I took advantage of it.

I asked her if she still had the envelope with the panties and she said she had hidden it in a suitcase. I’d come up with the idea of getting out one of the SansSoucie boxes as well as six pair still with the price tags attached from my 'stash'.. I told her that it might take a few days to get it done knowing Elle would have to be out of the house to do it. I pretty much knew Laura would go along with whatever I came up with but wasn’t expecting her to ask what she was to do with the panties in the envelope. I shrugged my shoulders, smiled and told her they were now hers. She gave me one of those coy smiles but didn’t say anything so I  took it to mean that she’d keep them. That made me happy in knowing that she’d have enough to be wearing them each and every day I’d see her.

Hobie was forthcoming with me upon his return from eating. The branch bank subcommittee had received the architect’s plans for the interior of the new branch building and wanted a special Board meeting to present them to the members. I’d let my concerns about the new branch slide from my everyday thoughts but upon hearing that there were now formal plans I asked Hobie if he’d had any input. When we'd first heard about the possibility of a branch we talked about things that we felt were needed as far as the work (teller’s) area was concerned. All he could tell me was that he’d see the plans on Wednesday and showed a look of disgust on his face when he did.

Arriving back from my lunch I found a small envelope on the seat of my chair. Opening it I saw a big I O U handwritten on the top of an index card with fifty dollars written in script below it. It was signed “Moira”. That was the last thing I was worried about at that time but it was nice to know of her appreciation for my effort. I decided to give James a call to see how he was coming on the ‘deal’. He picked the phone up on the first ring and laughed. He said he was reaching for the phone to let me know he had the motor, a 1954 with around 60,000 miles on it. He’d heard it run and said it was “good”. He also mentioned that by the time the car would be ready on Wednesday that he’d change the oil and do a tune up (plugs & points). That was more than I’d bargained for. The one thing that I wasn’t expecting was for him to ask when Peggy could have her interview. All I could think of to answer was my grandfather’s old saying “First things first”. Thankfully, James didn’t say anything more.

With all the things going on in my world I’d completely overlooked the fact that Columbus day was on Thursday and the bank would be closed. Bret was the one who brought it to my attention. That was the best news of the day because, by then, I needed a day off. Just before 5pm I saw Moira headed for the front door to catch her bus. She motioned for me to follow her outside and, somewhat reluctantly, I did. Just beyond the front doors she threw her arms around me and gave me a big hug. I didn’t know how to react but she quickly let go and ran off to the bus stop so I didn’t have to worry about it... then.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142l)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142l)

Because that Friday night was within the ‘busy period’, everyone of the tellers had to work to 6pm. I’d warned Elle that I’d be late because of the ‘busy period’ so it gave me a little window of time to try and meet up with James. I called and asked if he could stay at the station for a period of time after 6pm and he agreed to it. On my way up there I rehearsed my little ‘pitch’. For all intents and purposes it was a delaying tactic as far as Peggy was concerned but, for Moira, a plea.

James was always smiling and he was as I approached him sitting in his pick up truck. He invited me into the cab and before I could open my mouth he apologized for bringing Peggy into the situation. I certainly wasn’t expecting that. He went on to tell me that when he got home and told Peggy she got mad at him. Then his wife got involved and felt pretty much the same. He said he didn’t back down to them at first but over the next few days decided they were right. He claimed he was going to give me a call but had been too busy as he’d been short handed. The apology gave me some ‘breathing room“ which I desperately needed. I decided to take a little different approach and told him I’d need to meet with Peggy before anything could or would proceed. He nodded in agreement and when he did I snuck in that I’d have to have a vacancy at the bank first. Again, he agreed. Now it was my turn to ‘pounce’.

Without dragging it out, adnauseam, James said he was willing to make Moira’s car ‘road worthy’ for $50 and that included putting on used tires that had tread. He’d trade in his two junkers and get the used motor and install it. Being a ‘motor head’ I knew it was a good deal. Everybody would make out on it... but where was the $50 to come from. When the first deal was proposed I was willing to put up the $20 to install the motor but that was all I was going to be in for. I think I took about a minute before saying OK to the whole deal. As I exited the truck I turned to James and told him I needed the car by Wednesday. he just looked at me and.. smiled. That was the second time in just a few days a request of mine was returned with just a smile!

I wanted to get word to Moira but I didn’t have a phone number for her. It would mean going back to the bank and it was getting past my ”window of time“ with Elle so I just headed for home. On the way I decided that it wouldn’t make a material difference so let the thought go. Monday would be soon enough. So I focused on how to come up with the $50 without Elle knowing. I’ve made brief mention that I dabbled in painting signs. It went back to when I was racing horses. Through the years I’d volunteered to paint a sign here and there, if I had the time. I'd ended up volunteering to paint the school board campaign signs and, as an offshoot, was asked to do some others, but for pay. It was small stuff that didn’t take much time. Word of mouth is a sometimes wonderful thing and it led to a ”do it at your leisure“ job for the Country Club golf course. I was to paint the distance markers for each hole. Out of the eighteen I’d probably done six or so and got $5 for each one. The blank ones were in the garage and it came to me that if I finished them up on Saturday I’d have the $50 I needed. It had been shaping up to be a ‘leafy’ weekend as the leaves were really starting to fall. The Summer had been pretty dry which usually meant an early drop for them. Doing the signs would be an excuse to avoid that chore. Anne’s birthday party was the only thing out of the ordinary scheduled for Saturday and I wasn’t involved so I had myself a plan.

Even though Elle knew I’d be late I felt guilty about arriving after 7pm so decided to explain. She thought my efforts on behalf of Moira were a little ‘much’ and I was glad I didn’t mention the $50. After explaining that without help Moira would probably have to leave the bank Elle moderated her feelings. Taking that lead as a positive I offered to help her get things ready for Anne’s party and she pretty much forgot about Moira.

There were seven guests invited to Anne’s party. Since two of them were Ginger’s daughters she offered help Elle out. I’d already started painting when she arrived. I actually had to do a bit of a ‘double take’... she looked attractive. With so much of our Summer activity centered around the sailing club we didn’t get to see much of our regular ”group“. I’d seen Ginger around town a few times but only from a distance and had noticed that she seemed to have lost weight. But seeing her up close and in clothes that actually fit her was enlightening. In all the time we’d known her I’d never seen her in anything but loose fitting (frumpy) clothes. Elle had commented to me that it was to hide her weight. An added feature was that she’d had her hair cut and styled. It was a ‘new’ Ginger. As she walked up the path to the kitchen door I could actually see a VPL without her bending over. A BIG improvement!

The signs were finished before the party was over. Elle and Ginger had herded the kids outside to play party games for prizes. Much to my dismay I got recruited into being a judge. It has never ceased to amaze me as to just how cruel kids can be to each other over petty items. In one of the games I had to make a decision on just which one of two had come the closest to the target. I’ll admit that I made a personal decision ruling that this one girl had won when she hadn’t. She was a really nice kid whose family was going through some rough times and I thought declaring her the winner would be good for her psyche. The other girl disputed my decision and ripped the prize (a cheap toy of some kind) out of her hands and proceeded to stomp on it. The abused girl just stood there crying. Ginger went to her and squatted down to comfort her while Elle led the other girl away. I just stood there in disbelief... but for only a few seconds. As I looked down on Ginger I got a really great DP (downpants) and I was close enough to recognize the waist elastic as being on a Shadowline panty.   I’d heard Elle say that the procedure that Ginger had to help with her incontinence seemed to have worked and seeing that she wasn’t wearing a pair of the ‘dribble panties’ that we’d made for her seemed to have confirmed it.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142k)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142k)

The trip to Joanie’s house was, for sure, awkward. Neither of us said a word. Pulling into the driveway I finally broke the silence. The short trip was long enough for me to wonder just what Laura would say if Joanie asked where she’d gotten them... so I asked. The look on Laura’s face was blank. She didn’t have an answer. Usually I was a quick thinker, coming up with something even if it wasn’t the complete truth but this time I had nothing. Actually, I was mad at myself for not having thought of it when Laura had first asked me about getting them. I sat there and realized that the exciting thought of Joanie wearing panties I’d provided had completely blocked my senses. The only thing  could come up with was to tell her to hold on to them until I (we) could come up with a reasonable answer. She readily agreed.

Elle’s day had gone reasonably well back at her old school. She’d been a favorite of the principal when he was the assistant and had the responsibility for calling substitute teachers. But, with our moving and his promotion they hadn’t crossed paths in quite a while. He promised that he’d see to it that she got more calls. That made me happy too as that school district paid their substitutes more money. The teachers Elle had known were happy to see her again and she found out one of them was now living in our town. She told me the name but I didn’t remember just who she was. Elle had told her that she’d invite her over some weekend and all I could do was hope she was fairly good looking.

Wednesday was Anne’s 7th birthday and, because Elle had been teaching, deferred her party to Saturday. She’d wanted a ‘real’ bike (real meaning with regular sized wheels). I’d managed to get one and put together without her seeing it. She was so excited that she wanted to ride it to school. Not!

Thursday was Elle’s and my 9th anniversary. I’d taken a pro active stance about a present and told her that after I got the money back from what I'd paid in for my retirement in January I’d get her an appropriate one. I was fortunate in that she was receptive towards it. I was working on something with my parents  I knew she'd like.

The worry over the name and address files had been supplanted by the broken teller machine as I drove to work. I formulated a plan so that we wouldn’t have to go through the confusion of the previous day when it came time to prove up the day’s transactions. Luckily, after the ‘crush’ of customers right after the doors opened had subsided the flow was manageable. However, I was holding my breath as far as who the repairman might be and just how much experience he had with this type of equipment. The manufacturer had stopped making this model and customers, like us, were upgrading to the newer equipment. Because we’d let them know we were going in a different direction I was worried that we’d get less than top rate service and they would send an inexperienced person.

I needn’t have worried. The man who showed up was the district service manager and really knew his ‘stuff’. I found out that he was being promoted into a newly created position and, in the meantime, was covering while some of his staff was in training with the new type equipment. The problem with the machine turned out to be major (the whole print sector) but he said he knew where he could cannibalize one from a competitor bank. By noon we were back in full swing. Before he left I told him how much we’d liked Robby and asked if we would be getting an assigned repairman. He was nice about it when he said “No.” but guaranteed that we’d have coverage. I just smiled.

The rest of the ‘busy period’ went by without much in the way of disruptions which gave me time to think about the situation that James, my friend with the service station, had put me in as well as how to solve the potential problem with Joanie, Laura and the panties. I’d tried to come up with some different scenarios that would seem reasonable for Laura to tell Joanie. One thing I had going for me was that I had the SanSoucie catalog. I decided to use that as the ‘crutch’. My plan was to have Laura tell her that she’d been shown the catalog and had ordered some. The fact that it had been some time since I’d been approached by Laura to the present would make it reasonable for her to have not come up with the panties right away. I knew it was flimsy but it was the best I could come up with. Worst case scenario was that I’d have to give Laura the catalog for her to prove her story. The next ‘hurdle’ was to get some time with Laura to go over it with her.

The situation with James, his daughter Peggy and a deal for Moira’s car was a little more complicated. I’d been ‘blindsided’ by James but had been sharp enough not to commit to something I couldn’t produce... a job for Peggy. It wasn’t that I didn’t like her but there were no positions available. There were a few where I wished I could get rid of the people occupying them but... couldn’t. The fact that I really wanted to help Moira out was primary. She’d shared with me the fact that if she couldn’t get by she’d have to leave and go back to the city to live with her parents. I knew she really didn’t want that for a number of reasons and neither did I. In the short time she’d been at the bank I’d heard only good things about her work. So... I mulled over a few ideas concerning personnel. One indisputable fact was that Gina would be leaving around Thanksgiving. No one but Gina and I knew that. As much as I would‘ve liked to hire someone way in advance of that, I just couldn’t. I still hadn’t made up my mind about moving Lillian to the front line. From a purely prurient position, having her out there would certainly provide Bret and I with plenty of panty peeks. But there were some definite negatives to that move. The best idea I could come up with was to go back to James to tell him that there was a possibility of a vacancy before the end of the year and see what that got me.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142j)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142j)

My anticipated end result for the night actually came to fruition. What was like the ‘icing on the cake’ was that Elle was receptive to a little ‘morning delight” as the kids slept in. While cleaning up afterwards I asked about what Barbara had called her aside to talk about the previous evening. She was a bit reluctant to say anything but, without pushing too hard, I got her to tell me that Barbara had fallen asleep and “had a slight accident”. Before I could comment she added that it had happened in my reclining chair. I quickly put the scene together and realized that she’d wet herself but the chair she was in was vinyl covered so there was no damage or evidence. Discretion came into play and I didn’t say anything but stored the information into memory.

Elle’s good mood continued on through the weekend and I was definitely the beneficiary. I had to control myself so as to not push my luck. To cap it off Elle got a call to come in to teach on Monday. It wasn’t from the local school but the one she’d substituted at when we still lived in the mobile home. In spite of the fact that she’d have to leave earlier in the morning she was excited because she’d get to see some of her old compatriots. At about that same time I started thinking about the problem I would be facing at work... having to figure out how to get the name and address files converted over to the computer at the service bureau. By the time I went to bed I hadn’t come up up with a plan and could only hope that Albie, at the service bureau, would have one in the morning.

On Friday, I’d been able to get the panties that Laura had requested for Joanie out from my ‘stash’ but didn’t have the opportunity to see her and get them to her. It was the last day of the month, and quarter, and the accounting department had to close out the ‘books’. To do that they had to balance. A discrepancy had been discovered but not found which caused the audit department to be called upstairs. Somehow I missed seeing her leave so I still had to transfer them to her. I’d put them in a large manila envelope and had it in my briefcase. Driving to work I allowed myself to daydream a bit and wondered if I’d ever get to see proof of Joanie wearing them. Realistically, with Joanie working upstairs and me downstairs, I knew I’d have to be lucky if it happened.

I hadn’t even made it to my desk when the phone rang. I hoped it would be Albie but it was Laura. I looked towards her desk and saw no one, not even her boss, Liz. She said she was still working upstairs and apologized for not calling me on Friday. I asked if she could find time to see me. She said she’d probably be working late and could do it if I was still at my desk. I told her I’d wait.

When Albie finally called he said he was working on a solution but wasn’t prepared to elucidate. I expressed concern but he said not to worry, since now that there was a contract it was their problem. That good news allowed me to focus on handling some customers, and there were plenty of them. Way in the back of my mind had been the fact that Robby, the guy who'd been the bank’s service man for our teller equipment, had moved on. He’d told me that if we were really in a bind that he’d help us out but he also told me that he’d try to introduce me to the new representative and he hadn’t.

Around 2pm I saw Cara, the first teller on the line, struggling a bit so got up to see what was wrong. She’d put a passbook into the machine so the transaction would be posted and she couldn’t get it back out. Since it was basically out of commission it meant we were now two tellers short since they shared a machine and with a lobby full of people. I called in for service and was told there would be a man there at 9am the next morning... not what I wanted to hear. I was spoiled in that in the past Robby would stop by on his way home to at least survey the situation. Looking around I saw Lillian, the drive-up window teller, hustling across the floor to check on a signature. It reminded me that she was the only one using the machine at the drive up so told Cara and Corrine to process their transactions at her machine. I knew it’d be a nightmare to sort out at closing time but it was the only way to get out of a bad situation and keep the lobby traffic moving. As it turned out it was the perfect way to get together with Laura.

The last customer left the lobby around 3:30pm and I knew it would be late in getting the staff out and on their way home. With the problem of proving up that I just mentioned facing us I asked Hobie to intervene and to get Laura released from working on the accounting problem (there was window of time for us to file the necessary reports with the banking authorities) and he did. As soon as I saw Laura I gave her a smile and got one back. I was working with Cara trying to sort out the mixed transactions when Laura came up to help. Before I could say anything she, in a whisper, asked if I could give her a ride to Joanie’s when we were finished. It was perfect!  It was after 5:30pm when I called Elle to let her know I’d be late and it ended up being after 6pm when we finally struck a proof. I’d managed to tell Laura to find something to do for a few minutes while I cleared off my desk. I dawdled a bit to let all the others leave so it would be just Laura and I.

When I finally called her over to my desk I wanted to give her the envelope with the panties. I fully expected her to be looking for them so when I pulled the package out and handed it to her she looked a bit puzzled. I told her to go ahead and open it and when she did and pulled some of the panties out she immediately blushed to a bright pink. It made me wonder if I’d screwed up. It was clear that she was embarrassed. Now it was my turn to be puzzled and a bit embarrassed. So... I asked her why she was embarrassed. She didn't answer. I’m sure it was me who spoke first and asked if they weren’t what she wanted and if they weren’t the same as the ones she was wearing.  After hesitating for a few seconds I saw her head nod affirmatively and I clearly remember her then shrugging her shoulders but not answering. I don’t know why but I felt I had to ask her to take a close look at the pair she had in her hands to make sure they were the right size. I knew they were because they were from the same box that I’d given her just months earlier. A vision I’ll never forget was her holding a pair up in front of her and then looking at me with a sheepish smile when she, again, nodded a ‘yes’. I pretty much knew I'd ‘pushed’ the issue so stood up and grabbed my briefcase. She stuffed the pair she had in her hands back into the envelope. Nothing more was said as we walked to my car.

AUTUMN... perparing for changes (Part 142i)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142i)

The station wagon pulled up to the garage just as I finished up hiding the box with my stash in it. I was constantly moving it from place to place and the latest was in the old refrigerator in the garage. When I say old I mean old. It was probably 25 years old and had been in the garage when we bought the house. With the door facing the back wall I had complete confidence that Elle would never be able to get inside.

I was curious as to how Elle’s day had gone with the problem kids that she’d been warned about. She laughed. Being forewarned had helped but her problems were with some others. She had a funny smile on her face as she told me about two girls who had wet their pants. She did add that Margie (the regular teacher) had her hands full with that particular class. All in all, she was in a very good mood and it was manifested in the fact that she’d bought some heavy cream and was going to make me gingerbread, my favorite dessert. I couldn’t help but think (hope) it might last until we went to bed.

Leaves had started to fall and we had three giant maple trees. The lawn wasn’t growing like in the Summer but it still needed to be cut. I actually hated this part of Autumn because I had to rake the leaves before cutting the lawn. In truth, it was an all day job and one I dreaded. by supper time I was exhausted and in no mood to go out. Elle had committed us to go Jon (the milkman) and Ginger’s house to celebrate her birthday. I knew that would mean Jon’s brother Rob, would be there. I liked Rob when he was sober but it had been quite a while since he’d been that way for any length of time. He’d lost his job as a branch manager of a competitor bank and was running a shades and blinds store as a manager. His wife had left him and taken his kids with her. One of his drunken episodes was when he drove his car right through a highway barricade and into a hole that almost swallowed the car. It made the front page of the local newspaper. I tried my best to avoid it but it was the promise of a picture that did it.

There was one concession though. We would leave the party early. Elle had arranged for Barbara to babysit and of course the girls were all for it, especially Kaye. I took the camera upstairs so if there was an opportunity for a good picture I’d be somewhat ready. I could see that Elle had worn a partial package as I’d seen her wet panties hanging in the shower in the downstairs bathroom. I questioned her on just what had happened. She explained that she’d been on a field trip to a couple of farms with her class and, still in a good mood, admitted she was a bit wet when the group took a bathroom break. The kids were really ”antsy“ about needing to use the bathroom and decided let them use it first. By the time the last one exited she’d already used the ”package“. For her, that was a big admission. She would fight to keep from emptying her bladder into her ”package“ (or partial package) except for doing it for me. Hearing her describe it created an instant bulge. (37)There was one opportunity for a picture as we changed clothes but I decided to hold off hoping for something better after we got home. I picked out two pair of my favorite nylon satin panties that were very sensuous when wet. I really had high hopes for later.

Rob, as feared, was at the party but was sober when we arrived. When sober he was very funny and he had the others in stitches when we walked in. I didn’t recognize some of the people who were there but was shocked to see one couple. The guy, Bernie, was one of the guys I used to race against. His wife was a classmate of Elle’s in high school. The reason they were there was they’d bought the house right next door to Ginger and Jon. The other couple were new neighbors of the other side of their house. What was really ironic about them was the guy, Mal, was a cousin of one of my favorite female people when growing up... MJ (see part 7i). Meeting them made for an interesting evening and an excuse to avoid Rob as he got drunk in spite of Jon’s best efforts to prevent it from happening. I’d been curious as to what had become of MJ and was glad to hear she was happily married and living in California. Mal’s wife was one of the new teachers hired for the high school. She was really young and very cute with a name to go with the description... Mary Lou. Dressed conservatively, I didn’t give myself a chance for anything in the way of a panty peek or VPL. I was wrong! When Elle and I decided to leave she and her husband thought it was a good time for them to leave as well. To avoid Rob, the four of us had gone down to the finished basement. The stairs were a bit steeper than normal and on the way up I got a quick upskirt view of blue panties. Just that quick peek had me excited for what I hoped would be coming at home.

It was about 10pm when we got home and Barbara was up. She reported that the kids had been good but were a little late going to bed. She admitted that she’d let them stay up. It was a Friday night so it didn’t make that much of a difference. I paid her and was going to walk her home but she asked if she could speak to Elle first. It was obvious that she didn’t want me present so I made an excuse to get something from my desk. It only took a minute and then I walked her through the hedge and up to her kitchen door. Back at home Elle was waiting for me... with a nice surprise. She’d taken off her pants and was waiting just inside he door in just her panties and blouse. That told me I’d been right about what might happen... later. We turned out the kitchen lights and I followed her up to our bedroom. The foyer light was on and I was looking at her ‘bottom’ as I followed her. I thought her panties looked wet but before I could make sure she’d turned out the light with the switch at the top of the stairs. Just the thought of her being wet had my nether region at full attention by the time I walked into the bedroom. She flopped down on the bed and as she did I had a great view of her wet panties. As I said, I’d taken the camera upstairs and it was right there. I knew I was taking a bit of a chance gut grabbed it anyway.

... and it got better!

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142h)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 143h)

I won’t bore you with all the machinations my mind went through before telling Moira that I thought her car was beyond repair. I tried to explain why but I’m sure she didn’t understand what I was telling her. I did ask if there was anything still in the car that she wanted or needed right away. She said she couldn’t think of anything and we left it at that.

Finally back to work I spent some time talking with Albie about how they wanted to approach getting our names and address file converted over to their computer system. The one main problem we both came up with was that the bank only had them stored on addressograph plates, not something readily transferable and easy to use. Being a Friday afternoon we both decided that it could wait until the following week.

To catch her bus to be able to get home, Moira had to leave before 5pm. She made a quick stop at my desk to thank me again. As she walked away I remembered the panties I’d seen in her car in the morning and made a virtual picture of her wearing them. That, in turn, made me think about the actual panties still in the glove box of her car. I’d asked if there was anything in the car that she wanted and she’d said there wasn’t. That told me the panties were ‘fair game’ and actually got a bit excited in thinking about stopping up at the service station to get them later on. Even though James closed up at 6pm I knew Moira’s car wouldn’t be locked. Being on late duty (to 6pm) and anticipating another ‘treasure’ to add to my collection made time go by even more slowly.

It was about 6:20pm when I got to the station. I didn’t expect to see James still there as I knew he would lock the doors at 6pm, often chasing customers out of his office to do so. That threw a wrench in my plan to go to Moira’s car and to retrieve the panties. As soon as he saw me he headed in my direction. He wanted to make sure I knew why he was reluctant to try and fix the car. I assured him that I understood and asked what the car might be worth, as is. He pointed to two cars about the same year as Moira’s lined up in the area where her car was parked. He said they were worth about $50 each. That moved me to ask what it was worth if it was running. He laughed and said maybe $125, especially with the almost bald tires that were on it. I decided to tell him a bit about Moira and the hard times she was facing hoping he'd come up with a suggestion on how to help her out. He looked at me and from out of no where asked if I could find a job at the bank for his daughter, Peggy.

I always liked Peggy and had really felt sorry for her when her husband was killed in a car crash right after the birth of her daughter. I’d tried to keep up with her recovery progress but hadn’t followed up as I’d intended. However, this was a shock. With so many different things on my ’plate’ it was something I didn’t need right at that moment. After a few seconds to recover I indicated that I’d take it under consideration. As soon as I did he said he thought he might be able to trade the two old cars he’d pointed at for a motor for Moira’s car. I didn’t grasp what he was proposing at first but he repeated it and added that all it would cost Moira was a few dollars for his employee to install it in her car. Then ‘the light went on’ and I realized the offer was tied to his daughter Peggy and the possibility of a job. It certainly was a good deal for Moira but it would leave me in a rather difficult position when it came to coming up with a job for Peggy.

By that time I was really running behind. I looked over at Moira’s car and and looked at James. Why had he decided to stay late? I started my car and that made him turn towards his truck. I took a deep breath and then waited until I saw it move. As I saw it disappear around the building I opened my door and ran over to the car. The dash pocket was still open so all I did was stick my hand in and pull everything out... papers and the panties. I didn’t take time to look at them just getting back in my car and heading down the street.

I was almost home when I finally spread them out on the seat. Looking down at them I couldn’t help but wonder why they were in the glove box of her car, especially since the door to it wouldn’t stay closed. I pretty much knew I’d never find out. It was going to be another unanswered question like reason for the double back panel on the cotton panties Barbara wore.

Pulling up the driveway I was somewhat surprised not to see our station wagon.
I got the answer why as soon as I walked in. There was a note on the end of the counter that Elle and the girls had gone shopping. My dinner was in the oven and all I had to do was warm it up. That solved what I had perceived would be a problem because it was now after 7pm. I wouldn’t have to explain why I was late... again.

It also gave me the opportunity to look closely at the panties. As I mentioned, I was aware of the Pam brand but had never (knowingly) had my hands on a pair. They seemed to be well made and had a nice feel to them even though they weren’t my favorite... nylon satin. The crotch was my real focus as I’d noticed some staining there. I don’t know why but I decided to give the crotch a sniff. I wasn’t sure but I thought there was a faint smell of stale urine. The best light in the house was my desk lamp so I took them into the den area and gave the crotch a real close look. It was very faint but there definitely was a urine stain. That was enough for me to surmise that the reason for them being in the glove box was that she’d leaked and taken them off, forgetting they were there. That put my mind at ease about taking them because I’d asked her, specifically, if there was anything she needed or wanted from the car. Now, all I had to do was add them to my ”stash“ of panties worn by others. I remember thinking it was very convenient of Elle to have given me the opportunity to do it fairly easily.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142g)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142g)

Elle had fed the kids and had eaten herself but sat down and listened to my telling of Moira’s woes while I ate. She’d met Moira at the Chamber of Commerce picnic during the Summer so there was a bit of familiarity to her already in place. I was almost through eating when the phone rang so Elle answered it. I expected her to come right back but she didn’t. After finishing up I went to see where she’d gone and found her still at the telephone table and deeply involved in conversation. It was at least fifteen minutes later when she reappeared in the kitchen and looked a bit troubled.

The call had been from the teacher, Margie, she was going in to replace the next day. I asked what was wrong and she didn’t answer at first. She then told me Margie, whom she knew fairly well, had called to give her a warning about what she’d find in the way of ”problems“, meaning kids, in her class. When she told me that I thought it was nice of her to do that. However, it was a bit shocking to hear what she’d been told.
+++++++++++++++++++
A bit of historical background here... In the 60’s the terms ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and autism were still in their infancy. The kids who were later diagnosed with ADHD were just considered to be ”disruptive“ and those with autism were ”strange“.
+++++++++++++++++++
Out of a class of 20+ first graders she had four who fell into either the ”disruptive“ or ”strange“ category. It wasn’t that Elle hadn’t had those type of kids before but not that many in one class. Elle seldom told me much about the classes she taught. Being a substitute teacher she was called in to teach any grade from 1st through 6th and in any of three different schools. I remember her taking a deep breath and then wondering out loud why the school had concentrated them like that. I, being a ‘smart-ass’, told her it was because there were so many new families moving into town from the city. She just made a face at me. The bright, cheerful demeanor she’d shown when I arrived home was now replaced by a bit of a frown and almost complete quietness. I was sorry I’d opened my mouth.

The next morning Elle’s mother was there to pick Kaye up before 8am. Elle took the older girls to school with her which left me alone to delve into the cedar closet to retrieve the new SanSoucie panties that would be going to Joanie. The only thing that bothered me was that since Joanie worked upstairs in the mortgage area of the bank I wouldn’t have much of a chance to ever get a peek of them or to see a VPL. But that wasn’t all that bad as every time I’d see her I’d know just what she was wearing.

With my concentration on the panties I’d buried Moira’s car problem in the deep recesses of my mind until I was almost to work. I’d just gone past the turn for James’ service station when it came to me so I did a U turn and headed there. He didn’t have a tow truck but did have a pick up truck that he said he could rope tow it to the station if I’d steer the car. That old saying ”between a rock and a hard place“ came to mind as I said I’d do it. I needed to be at the bank but felt obligated to help Moira. I jumped into his truck and we headed for the car. Driving past the bank I wondered how I’d managed to get myself involved in yet another distraction. The car was just as we’d left it but with one difference. The there was ticket under the windshield wiper for illegal parking. With heavy traffic because it was the morning ‘rush hour’ it took while to get started. I had to be very careful not to run into the back of James truck because the tow rope was so short. In a way it reminded me of racing the stock car where we all raced close together and with no brake lights. At the station I had to wait for James to find a place put the car so I just sat there and contemplated where the car had been during it’s almost 20 years of existence. It, like Moira’s house, was in need of a lot of care. The glove box in the dashboard was open and when I went to close it found it wouldn’t stay latched. Not satisfied to leave it that way I slid across the seat so I was right in front of it. I was looking into the compartment to see what was wrong and I moved some junk from the latch bar. As I did I felt something soft. I lifted some papers and saw a small wad of cloth. Now really curious, I reached in for it.

In my hand I found a pair of white panties with some flowers embroidered onto the front panel. I immediately checked to see if James or one of his workers was around. Not seeing anyone I opened them up to look at the label. The first thing I saw was the size... 6, and turning it over read the name of the manufacturer... Pam. I recognized it having seen displays of Pam panties in one of the department stores in one of my trips to the city. But the most interesting thing was the staining in the crotch. It was no where near as much as Elle’s panties but there was a concentration right in the very middle of the crotch. I really thought about just stuffing them into my jacket pocket but my conscience got the best of me and I returned them to where I’d found them. James and his helper soon appeared and, after moving another car, we pushed the car into that spot. He told me he’d take a look at it before noon and would call me.

By the time I got to work it was almost 10am. I made a call upstairs to Moira to tell her the status and she said she’d been surprised not to see the car at the traffic circle on her way in to work on the bus. I told her I’d help her out with James after he diagnosed the problem. There was dead silence on the line. The first word I heard was ”Really?“... and then ”You’d do that for me?“ For some reason hearing that embarrassed me.

It was a little after the noon siren had gone off that I got the call from James. I’d been hoping that it was something simple but it wasn’t. I’d diagnosed it on my own as having to do with the ignition and I’d been partially right. The shaft on the distributor had broken and the parts had been chewed up by the fact that the crankshaft had continued to turn until the car actually came to a stop. James said he could get a used distributor without a problem but, all the pieces were down in the crankcase and some had probably been picked up by the oil pump. The prognosis was pretty bleak for an old car. I told him I’d get back to him.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142f)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142f)

The look on her face told me she had a problem. Unlocking the door I heard her say ”I’m glad your still here“. Not knowing what to expect, I let her in. Her car had stopped running as she traversed the traffic circle at the end of the street. Five major roads emptied into the round-a bout and it was always a problem at the end of a work day. I didn’t hesitate and led her to my car. There was no mistaking which car was hers as it was definitely causing a problem. It was a post WWII Chevrolet 4 door sedan with the old fashioned, high bumpers. I’d thought that maybe I could push it but when I pulled in behind it the bumpers didn’t match up. My effort had created an even bigger traffic problem and now cars trying to manipulate around us were blowing their horns. I moved my car into the parking lot at the diner that was located right there and went back to see if I could get her car started. The engine turned over but there was no sign of it firing up. A couple of people in the parking lot came over and I was able to convince a couple of them to help push the car out of the traffic circle. It was still in the way but only affected the cars going down that road. Moira was beside herself with embarrassment.

The only thing I could think of was to call my friend, James, who owned the service station that I used and to ask his help. He was sympathetic but told me he couldn’t come right at that time. When I told Moira it really upset her. She was concerned about her kids and the fact that she had no way to get home to them. To me, that was the least of her problems but, women being women, have their own set of priorities. I told her I could drive her home and then would try to follow up on getting her car running. However, having just experienced a bit of crisis at home for not having called Elle to tell her I’d be late, I made the call first. Not happy, but accepting of it was all I could expect from Elle.

By the time we headed for Moira’s, she’d calmed down. After a few minutes, to break the silence, I asked if Gee, the Trustee of the bank who was also an attorney, had been any help to her. I remember her taking a deep breath and sighing. Long story short... to do anything about getting money her husband would have to be found. To do that would take hiring a private investigator and she didn’t even have the money to pay the mortgage. She told me that he'd told her one of her options was to stay in the house for now and just let the bank foreclose on it. That, to me, sounded strange because it would affect her credit rating but, I wasn’t an attorney. One thing about the trip was that to get to the town where she lived I had to drive past the mobile home park where Elle and I’d lived for over three years. I hadn’t been there in at least two and decided that I’d do a drive through on the way home.

I was actually shocked to see both the area where she lived and especially the house. It wasn't much bigger than some of the mobile homes in the park we’d just driven past. But that wasn’t the only thing. It was obviously cheaply built and needed attention. With the Air Force base just down the road I pictured it being built to house married service men... and that was how Moira got there. Her husband was in the Air Force but retired soon after they moved in. Then he took off and left her and two kids. I had a ‘working knowledge’ of appraisals and knew the house wouldn’t appraise very well. I was a bit bold when I asked her what they’d paid for it and couldn’t believe it when she said $17,000. I’d only paid $25,000 for my house and it was a two story, 2250 square foot house with 5/8 of an acre property in an established neighborhood. My guess was that the property at this house totaled less than 1/5 of an acre in a very poor area. I know my reaction didn’t make Moira happy but, as I said, it was a sad, sad parcel.

I’d met her daughter back right after she’d started at the bank. A pretty girl with her mother’s red hair, she obviously needed some new (and larger) clothes. She was sitting on the steps leading to a side door into the house. If Moira hadn’t been in the passenger seat I might’ve had a good upskirt look when she went to stand up. When she did her dress, a cotton print, was really tight across her chest. From where I was sitting the print looked faded as well. I’ve mentioned that Moira’s clothes were outdated so, after seeing the house there was no doubt she was in pretty dire straits.

She thanked me profusely and when I asked how she’d get to work she said she could get a friend to drive her to the bus stop. I let her know I'd follow up on her car and took off.  On the way home I couldn’t, for the life of me, come up with a solution for her situation. When I saw the sign for the old mobile home park coming up I remembered that I wanted to do a drive through. The first thing I noticed was that there were no more large mobile homes in the front lot. I drove on back to where the last unit we’d lived in was located and was taken aback when I saw two units to the West of it. When we’d lived there I’d been told they were unusable and wonder what had changed. Just before we sold and bought our house the owners had been converting some of the older, small pads to spaces for camping trailers. Now, there had to have been over 40 of them and they ran all the way out to the road. A lot had happened in just three years.

As it was now later than I expected it to be when I got near the bank I decided to by-pass stopping to get my briefcase and kept on going. Even though I’d called Elle I fully expected that the atmosphere would be a bit ’chilly’ when I walked in. She was all bright and cheerful and didn’t waste anytime in telling me why. She’d been called in to substitute teach the next day. That news made me happy as well because it would afford me the opportunity to locate the panties I wanted to dig out of my stash of new panties for Joanie.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142e)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142e)

First things first... Arriving at work the telephone company trucks were there and the team of men were already at work The supervisor was waiting for me and wanted to know where the three additional terminus points would be. I hadn’t given it much thought so was pressed to make a decision right then and there. I saw Hobie arrive and go right to his phone. I wished that I was at my desk to overhear the conversation with the service bureau... but I was busy trying to make a decision that could possibly be important in the future.

As much as I wanted to leave the project and go find out what the service bureau thought of the proposal, I stayed with it. It was killing me not knowing and I was a bit upset that Hobie didn’t come over to bring me up to date. It was around 10am when the workers took a break and I thought I’d get the answer. On my way to Hobie’s desk I saw a rather upset woman almost screaming at Trish. I stopped to ask what the problem was and she then turned her venom on me. She’d used the public restroom and there hadn’t been any toilet paper or hand towels and now she was wet. She actually spit it out so loudly that the whole lobby probably heard her. I’ve posted in the past about how the bank had been bedeviled by someone who was taking the toilet paper and paper towels. Hank, our messenger/custodian, had even taken to spending his lunch hour sitting on the bench in the lobby and watching the people who used the rest room. After one would leave he’d get up and check to see if the things were still there. He hadn’t had any success and that really had frustrated him. There had been complaints in the past but none like this. I asked the lady (?) to come to my desk and, reluctantly, she followed me. I explained the situation but to no avail. Not having a lot of patience to begin with, I gave up and asked what she wanted me to do. I honestly think she was shocked by that. After a few seconds I ‘pushed’ her with “Well..." At that point she got up and walked out. I breathed a sigh of relief but before she got to the gate to leave the area I saw a nice round spot on the back of her skirt. That made me smile... and also told me she hadn’t been telling the whole truth. As soon as I was sure she was out the front door I went over to the public restroom. The first thing I saw was the trash basket filled with used paper towels. She’d been right in that there was no toilet paper. I didn’t know what had actually happened but I had an idea.

With that out of the way I returned to my desk to find Hobie on the phone. I was wondering if I was ever going to get to talk with him. I waited and saw the telephone guys back at work and started to get up. Hobie motioned for me to stay put and after a few minutes he gave me the ‘thumbs up’ signal. I wasn’t sure just what part of the proposal he was referring to and, with the frustration I’d experienced, wasn’t willing to think it was for the whole thing. It was probably only five or so minutes but it seemed like an hour until he hung the phone up. I don’t think I was holding my breath but when he spoke I wanted to jump out of my chair.

Long story short... The ‘big wigs’ at the bank that owned the service bureau didn’t like the idea of deferred payments but Bruce, the manager of the service bureau was able to convince them that having us as a customer would be worth the loss of immediate income. I knew from my conversations with Albie that when we signed on we were the first ‘thrift institution’ to do so and that they were using that fact to try and lure other savings banks and savings and loans to go with them as well.

I was excited, for sure, even though I knew I had a LOT of work to do in the next two months. But, before I could start thinking about it my phone rang. It was Trish telling me the phone guys were waiting for me. With the bookkeeping machine (computer?) leaving soon after the first of the year I decided to run two of the extra lines to the area that housed it. As I previously had written, these workers were only there to run the lines. Once the decision was made the supervisor said they were good and would be leaving around noon. As I was thanking him he pointed to Gina and commented that she was a ”winner“. I had no idea what she’d done to prompt that comment but it, again, reinforced the fact that she was going to be missed.

Fortunately, Bret had been able to handle the platform customers while both Hobie and I’d been tied up. That changed after lunch. It seemed like a never ending run of customers that needed desk side assistance. On top of that there were the usual check counter signings that were common place at the beginning of the 'busy period'. That was where a withdrawal amount exceeded $1000 and a bank officer had to sign the check as well as the teller. For some reason it seemed like an inordinate amount of the checks were for Gina’s window customers. Each time I signed a check she would give me a ‘knowing’ smile and it made me uncomfortable.

The night before, I’d discovered a note from Moira, the newest hire for the accounting department. It reminded me I’d promised to follow up with her after introducing Gee, the Trustee who was an attorney to her. I happened to notice her walking across the lobby to leave for the day but didn’t want to be too obvious in hailing her so decided to let it go for another day. Bret had left a little early as one of his kids was sick. Hobie was in a meeting with Bert, the president, so I was the only one on the first floor when I heard a sharp knocking at the back door. Hank was long gone so I got up to see who it was and was surprised to see Moira.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142d)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142d)

First things first was a saying I got tired of hearing my grandfather say to me when staying with him. Like a lot of young boys, I didn’t have ‘staying ability’ when tackling difficult projects. I don’t know what made me think of him as I looked out onto the work area and saw the mass of wires strewn around by the telephone company workers. They had gotten a bit out of hand and were making it difficult for the tellers to move about. I decided to concentrate on that project because it was right there in front of me and not 'pending'.

It was a bit of luck that I chose to confront them when I did. The foreman on the job was best friends with Trish’s boyfriend. I’d noticed him chatting with her from time to time and felt he wouldn’t be upset if I asked him to concentrate on one or two work areas at a time. He was nice enough about it and then hit me with an offer I didn’t have to think twice about. Even though we’d only asked for five dedicated lines he told me there was enough wire assigned to the job to provide another three if we wanted them in the future. He could lay in the wires during this installation at no added cost. Then if we wanted to add more teller machines it would be a simple procedure to activate them. It made sense to me. All I had to do was pick out where they might go.

Their work day was over at 4pm. By then they had laid out the wire for eight machines and would be back to finish the primary ones in the morning. With that done it gave a me chance to think about Laura’s request... and the problem that it presented. I loved the idea of Joanie wearing the Sans Soucie panties like Laura was wearing but getting to them was going to be difficult. I’d spread my pantie stash out and into three different locations in and around the house. I’d hidden all the new panties I’d gotten from my friend Willie in the cedar lined closet in the North West bedroom now occupied by Anne. The only way to get to them involved a bit of rearranging the contents and I didn’t dare try it while Elle was home or, for that matter, Anne either. If Laura had asked me the past Wednesday or Thursday it wouldn’t have been a problem. With Elle teaching and leaving for work along with the older girls at 8am I would’ve had a window of time to have gotten to them. Now... I just didn’t know.

Tuesday was the day before the ‘busy period’ began so, for the most part, it was spent making sure everything was in order for the onslaught of customers. The telephone people were done by noon and all we had to do was get the new machines in, test them and we’d be on-line. I couldn’t wait. The people at the service bureau had assured me the we’d be amazed at how much faster we’d be able process transactions. Albie told me that the lines of customers would be noticeably shorter and that was something that everybody was looking forward to.

Wednesday was more than the beginning of the busy period. It was the full Board of Trustees meeting and, hopefully the approval to allow the service bureau to input our name and address file. That was the key to going on-line in December, something I felt was imperative. I’d actually had dreams of still being on the old system and having the bookkeeping machine (computer?) go down before we got the IRS forms printed and mailed. Thankfully, being busy with all the added customers, the day went quickly. When I saw the Trustees filing in I started getting nervous even though I wasn’t going to have to make the presentation in front of them.

It was a fairly quick meeting because there weren’t many mortgage applications. I saw the Trustees headed for the back door and was waiting for Hobie to find out their decision when the phone rang. It was Bert, the president. He wanted me to come upstairs to his office. Not a good sign. When I walked in I saw Hobie and Gee, the Trustee who was an attorney, with the president. The Board had approved what I wanted to do but under one condition... that we could put off paying for everything (equipment, inputting the name and addresses and training) until after the first of the year. I immediately wondered why they called me in to tell me that. There wasn’t much I could say but it left me wondering about the convoluted thinking of the majority of the Board. Hobie said he’d call the service bureau in the morning and I was excused. By the time I got back to my desk everybody had gone. Even though there were things I could do I was so discouraged that I picked up my briefcase and headed for the door.

Barbara and her sister, Mo, were working with Jean and Anne on their ‘cheering’ as I pulled up the driveway. I hadn’t seen much of Mo since school had started. As soon as my girls saw me they headed in my direction and the sisters headed for the opening in the hedge. I was disappointed by that as they’d been wearing their cheerleading uniforms. At supper Elle told me that there had been a home soccer game and Barbara had invited our girls to go and see them cheer. So, they all went and Elle had brought the sisters home afterwards and they'd stayed to play. I mentioned that they had pretty much disappeared as soon as I drove up. She just smiled.

More times than not I just dragged my briefcase home without ever opening it. For some reason I decided to get something from it and found an envelope with just my first name handwritten on the face. Puzzled I tore it open and found a note from Moira. I looked at the date and saw it was written on the weekend and had probably been there since Monday. In beautiful handwriting she’d written a note reiterating what she’d told me back right after she’d been hired...  “Thank you for believing in me...”. It made me feel good but I honestly couldn’t think of anything special I’d done or said to warrant that. It did make me think about her and the situation she was in. In spite of all the other things going on I vowed to follow up with her and her meeting with Gee the next day.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (part 142c)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142c)

As promised, I got my ‘reward’ soon after we got home. The only thing was that I was too anxious so Elle didn’t get much out of it. That led to the next morning where, without kids, we were able to enjoy some “morning delight” and that led to something that I’d been missing. As the kids got older our wandering around the house in just our underwear had all but disappeared. Elle’s mother had called and said she was making cookies with the kids so for us to plan on having lunch with her. That took the pressure off to pick them up. I convinced Elle that it would be fun to not get dressed right away. She agreed but only until after breakfast. That was OK by me. I enjoyed looking at her more than anyone else and when in her bra and panties it was perfect.

I convinced her to cook up some bacon and fry some eggs. While she was doing that I was setting the table. As I did I saw someone run past the dining nook windows. Before I could see who it was I heard a knock on the door. When we bought the house it had a dutch door at the entrance to the kitchen. We couldn’t make up our minds weather to keep it or to replace it and, as of then, hadn’t made a decision. It had come in handy with the addition of cats and kittens because we could open the top half to let air in and leave the lower half closed to keep the felines from the screen. We hadn’t come downstairs until after 9am and, in checking the temperature, saw it was up to 70 so had opened the top half of the door. Elle, concentrating on what was on the stove, instinctively went to see who’d knocked. She was almost there when I called to her and pointed to her midsection. That should’ve stopped her cold but, instead, she made a dash to the hallway leading to the stairs. That left me stuck in the nook in just my boxers. Hoping it was a male I called out asking who it was. I recognized Barbara’s voice and she said she was looking for the girls. She and some of her cheerleading friends were going to be practiceing and wanted to know if the kids wanted to watch. By then I knew she’d seen Elle in just her underwear. Hoping that she’d leave when I told her the kids weren’t there I told her they’d be back after lunch. It didn’t work as she said she had something for them. I remember taking a good deep breath and asking if she’d just leave it on the picnic table on the patio. I didn’t hear anything and was now hiding so if she looked in the window as she headed home she wouldn’t see me. When I saw her pass by I remember thinking of what she might tell her mother (and father) about the lady next door running around in just her bra and panties.

Fast forwarding to Monday at work... There were two telephone company trucks parked by the back door. When I’d met with the service bureau they’d given me a list of things I had to do from my end before the conversion. One was to get phone lines run to each teller station to accommodate the new machines. Albie had warned me not to put it off because the phone company was notorious for not meeting deadlines. When I called to arrange for them I was told it would be at least five or six weeks. That was OK regardless of when we converted. So, you can imagine my surprise to find out that they were there to do it right then and there. It didn’t matter because lobby traffic was still very slow. However, it did remind me that I had to arrange to have the counter openings for the teller machines modified before the new machines were delivered. That thought triggered another thought and it was to find out out if the machines were going to be available should the mid December date materialize. Since the service bureau was to be the purchaser of record I called Albie. That triggered the question from him as to what we were doing about the name and address files. By then my head was about to explode. I explained the situation and after hanging up remember sitting at my desk with my head down and in my hands. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a skirt and some bare leg standing there next to my desk. Startled, I looked up to see Laura. I hadn’t really had any conversation with her since she’d moved in at Joanie’s house so that was my first thought. Before I could ask about it she wanted to know if I had a minute or two for her. Neither Bret nor Hobie were at their desks and Trish was in conversation with Cara.

Laura had matured a lot since she first started but she was still very shy. This was a big step up for her to come to my desk and want to talk about something personal during business hours. Of course I said it was OK. But, before she sat down she looked over her shoulder to see if anyone was headed in our direction. I was really unsure of just what might be her reason to want to see me. She was ahead of schedule in repaying the money I’d advanced for her to buy clothes so pretty much dispatched that as the reason. Finally she summoned the courage to get to the point. If I’d been standing I probably would’ve fallen over backwards. Her question absolutely floored me. Did I still have any of the panties I’d ‘sold' her. I can only imagine the look on my face when I heard it. It took a couple more deep breaths for me to give her an answer and all it was was a simple “Yes”.

I could see her face flush and she started to get up. I reached out for her hand to keep her from leaving. As there was still no one around I asked how many she wanted. I heard a whispered “Six”. After hearing that I was trying to compute. I’d given her six pair back in the Spring and wondered why she’d need six more so soon. As I’ve previously written about her she was very smart and this was a case of that coming to the fore. It was almost as if she had a window to my mind. She, very quietly, said they weren’t for her. Naturally I wanted to know just who and more importantly, why she was the ‘front man’ for the deal. I knew I was out of line but I asked anyway. Looking down in her lap she sort of muttered “Joanie”. That was even more of a shock than when she asked about the availability of the panties. But, that was all she said.

Her answering me really raised the color in her cheeks and also made her look me right in the eyes. Then she pleaded with me not to say anything. Knowing how much I was at risk there was no way in hell I was going to discuss any of it with anybody. I assured her at least a couple of times before she finally got up. Upon leaving she wanted to know how much they were. I didn’t answer but did tell her we’d discuss it at another time. She gave me a weak smile and headed back to her work area.

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142b)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142b)

By and large the party was a ‘dud’... but memorable for two reasons... one good and one very bad. There were three married couples, one couple that was dating and two single girls/women. I recognized four of the women from school activities but the hostess and one other were new to the school. The hostess, Brenda, was marginally cute but would’ve been much cuter with the loss of 10 to 15 pounds. However, she was wearing something that was of great interest to me... knit pants. The color was an off white and she was wearing a plaid shirred sleeveless blouse that ended at her waist and paired with a matching top that was open in front (no buttons) but with sleeves. As soon as Elle saw it she asked Brenda where she’d gotten it. Thankfully, it wasn’t from a local shop. The reason for my interest was it was plainly obvious that she’d purchased the pants when a little thinner and the ‘dimples’ from the leg elastics of her panties showed at her hips and I couldn’t wait to see her backside. The short top(s) she was wearing promised some DP’s (down pants) somewhere during the evening. That was the good part.

The bad part was the husband of one of the new teachers was probably one of the most obnoxious people I have ever met. It took him no more than fifteen minutes to establish that fact. His name was Claude and his wife’s name was Marie. The funny thing was that I kind of knew her. She was a local girl and had gone to school with Elle but was a grade behind her. I knew her younger brother from pick up baseball games during the Summers when I was a kid. On the few occasions I’d seen her I established that she was ‘different’. It wasn’t that she wasn’t pretty because she, from afar, really was. It was the way she ‘carried’ herself. Aloof, with what might be observed as a superiority complex. Right after she arrived, and before introductions, I asked Elle if it was the same Marie who had grown up in the house right next door to where Jon (the milkman) and Ginger lived. She said it looked like her but it had been over ten years since she’d last seen her. Elle volunteered that while in school she'd not been popular at all and didn’t participate in school activities. That made me wonder what the school saw in hiring her.

In any case, Claude and Marie arrived with a blaring horn in a red Ford Mustang convertible. That should’ve been a warning. We’d just arrived and were being introduced to the others. Everybody was inside but went out to see what the noise was all about. Being a ”motor head” I knew it was a new a newer one  and as I approached it I could hear the motor and new it was one of Ford’s big block V-8 engines. I’d heard about it but not seen one actually in the car and wondered how they’d ‘shoehorned’ under the hood. When the car was first introduced it came standard with a six cylinder engine and then, later, a small V-8 engine was added as an option. Unknowingly, I asked the guy to pop the hood so I could take a look. He did and promptly got out. My first impression, without him opening his mouth, was he was certainly different. Painfully thin and with a ‘ski nose’ he had a different look than most guys I knew. As I peered at the motor he started talking... and talking... and talking. That was bad enough but even though I didn’t know the ‘specs’ on the motor I knew he didn’t know what he was talking about. And then it got worse. In less than half an hour the other guys there had tuned him out as well. He had opinion on any and everything. I could write a whole post on him but I’ve already written too much.

I’d hoped that the hostess, Brenda, had planned some game activities like we’d done at past parties with the “group” but she didn’t. The women ended up talking about school and teaching and the guys were relegated to the kitchen being bored out of our minds by Claude. Brenda finally came to the kitchen to get some ‘goodies’ she’d made for refreshments. I was standing right across from the refrigerator and when she opened the door something fell out. She bent over to retrieve it and when she did I got a double dose of a good thing... a fantastic VPL AND... a DP. What made it so outstanding was there was no mistaking that she was wearing two panties. The crotch lines of each were clearly seen, made even evident by the fact that her slacks were a bit tight. I also saw about about two inches of flesh above the waist of the pants and could see the two waist elastics. I was too far away to be able to identify them but decided that I would concentrate on trying to locate myself somewhere behind her as we imbibed on the ‘goodies’.

The house was really small and when we all went into the living room the only way for all to fit was for some to sit on the floor. I volunteered to help carry a plate for her so followed her in. After we passed the plates all around she sat down on the floor at the end of the couch. Elle was sitting on the couch at that end so I took a seat on the arm rest behind Brenda and next to Elle. It gave me a perfect view. With light from the lamp on the table I had no trouble identifying the elastic of the panties on top... Shadowline. It was very distinctive. The other pair had what I called tube elastic in which the elastic was encased by the same nylon material as the panties. I was aware of two brands that did it that way ... VanRaalte and Kayser. So, what that told me was that even though she was a new teacher her panties were of a high quality. Now the question was why was she wearing two pair like Elle was wearing (see the picture from the previous post). Interesting!

Sitting next to Elle I was able to convey to Elle that I wanted to leave. Claude was driving me nuts. I wanted to stuff a sock in his mouth, but... Elle got the message and I was really proud of her when she flat outright lied when she said we had to get the babysitter home by 10pm. In the car we both sat there and shook our heads. On our way home when I asked about Marie, Claude’s wife, and at first she didn’t answer. When I pushed her on it she muttered something about her being the perfect match for Claude. I didn’t understand so continued to press for an opinion.

Elle was never one to put anyone down. Her philosophy was there was good in everyone. The only answer I could get was that since it seemed like Claude did all the talking there was no need for her to speak. I took that to mean that she didn’t have much in the way of personality so asked if I was right in that respect. I remember her exact words... “She's got the personality of a rock”. I’d never heard that before and loved it. In fact, I’ve used it many times since then.

AUTUMN... preaparing for changes (Part 142a)

AUTUMN... preparing for changes (Part 142a)

We lived in farm country and many farmers used the Farmers Almanac as their bible when it came to planting and harvesting of their crops. The Autumnal Equinox was a critical date for them. Elle also use that point on the calendar to trigger certain things with one of them being putting Summer clothes away and getting out the Fall and Winter ones. I didn’t agree because I knew there would still be some warm days on into October. It was one of the few things we didn't agree on but it wasn't worth a comment.

At work there had been some controversy about the ladies wearing (or not wearing) stockings back when the issue of wearing pants had been an issue. I’d managed to tame it a bit when it was agreed that stockings wouldn’t be required during the Summer. First, it was never put down on paper and made a part of the dress code. Second, there was no definition of Summer. So, I wasn’t expecting Letitia, the head teller, to come up to me right before the doors opened to report that none of the tellers (except her) were wearing stockings. With everything else that was going on I didn’t need that. It annoyed me that the stocking matter was more important to her than what she was being paid (too much) to do. From a practical standpoint, the depositors really couldn’t see if they were or weren’t wearing stockings so why was it important. And, for the tellers it was an unnecessary expense. Again, my viewpoint was to let the women make the choice themselves. As soon as the weather turned consistently colder I was sure they’d go back to wearing stockings on their own. Not only that but they’d also take advantage of the dress code now allowing pants. So, I told Letitia I’d take care of it just to get rid of her but with no intention of doing anything at all.

The first time I looked Gina’s way she saw me and gave me smile. It made me uncomfortable. I also noticed Robbie, the service mechanic for our bookkeeping machine (computer?) and teller machines was there. I’d asked Bret to put in a service call with the idea of having preventive maintenance done prior going into the ‘busy period’ which was less than a week away. I didn’t pay much attention to him and just before I was leaving for lunch he came up and asked if I had a few minutes. Knowing him, I had a feeling it was important. As we made our way back to my desk I had a mini panic attack thinking that there was a problem with the bookkeeping machine. It was worse...

I remember meeting him for the first time and not really believing that he was our service technician. He certainly did not put forth a positive image. But, over time he won me over and I had complete trust in him. When he told me he was leaving his job at the end of the month I had a real panic attack. I didn’t want to believe it. I asked the reason and he had a whole slew of them. I was really disappointed and let him know. After a few seconds of silence he smiled. I thought that was sort of strange and called him on it.

I won’t bore you with details but he said he saw that his company was loosing business to the manufacturer of the equipment we were going to be using and went and applied for a a job with them. They didn’t have any technicians living in the county and had pending sales that would warrant one. It seemed like Robby ‘stepped in it’ when he walked in to apply. They were going to send him to school for two months to learn their equipment. He seemed excited and when I asked if he would be the one to service our equipment he said he couldn’t say but he hoped that it could happen.

With that out of the way I asked what was going to happen if we needed service after he was gone. It was obvious that he didn’t have an answer or didn’t want to speculate. He and I’d worked out an arrangement where he would stay late to work on a problem but do it ‘off the books’. I knew that wasn’t going to happen with his replacement and that was my biggest worry, especially if the problem was with the bookkeeping machine (computer?). When I brought that up Robby reached into his pocket and pulled out one of his business cards and wrote a number on the back. It was his home telephone number and when he handed it to me told me that if he was physically able to help us he would. I still didn’t feel good but I did feel better than when he first told me of his pending move.

It was Bret’s Friday to work late and with business really slow I decided to leave a little early. Elle was still riding a high from getting back into the classroom and it was evident as soon as I walked in. I’d hardly had a chance to say a word when she announced we were going to a party. Not that I was adverse to going to a party but I preferred to have a little more warning. I asked who was giving it and all she could say was that it was one of the new teachers. After the week I’d had I would’ve been happy to just eat and play with the kids. However, I wanted to support Elle especially after the ‘chilly’ night I’d experienced early in the week.

Elle had already taken the older girls to her mother’s house so it was only the two of us to eat supper. Wanting to take advantage of being alone I was able to persuade her to take off her skirt and slip while making supper. I saw she was still wearing her ‘dribble panties’ but had on a pair of sanitary panties over them. I asked what happened and she gave me a sheepish smile as an answer. I pressed her on it and she said she’d made it through the whole day dry but was in the parking lot when approached by another teacher. She said she couldn’t get away from her and then felt a dribble. She said she tried to make it back inside and almost made it. Since it was only a short ride home she didn’t want to change to a dry pair without washing up so she chose to just slip on a pair of sanitary panties over them. She added that she'd left them on hoping I’d be home early. I smiled knowing that there was a good chance I’d have some real fun later.

After eating I hoped that she’d really be generous and let me ‘play'. Knowing what that would eventually lead to she made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I could have a picture. What made that special was that I didn't have to give up anything material. It may have been my second choice but I knew that with patience I’d be rewarded later and have a picture to boot.

TRANSITIONING... to Autumn (Part 141l)

TRANSITIONING... to Autumn (Part 141l)

At the bowling alley I saw Gina’s car parked in the back. From there you could get a view of the lake and she was standing in front of her car staring out at it. Seeing the lake brought back some good memories from when I lived at the mobile home park. I pulled up along side and before I could get out of my car she was sliding into the passenger seat. It was refreshing to see the easy smile that had been one of the reasons I’d hired her. She had a way to keep even the nasty customers calm. However, seeing it also reminded me that we (the bank and depositors) would soon miss it.

After closing the door she made herself comfortable by throwing her left leg up on the seat and leaning back. As she did I got a split second peek of white from under her skirt and she saw me looking at that area. That made her smile. ”Still the ‘panty man!“ was what I heard. The weather was still warm enough to have the car windows open but hearing those words I needed more than a cool breeze. I could feel the perspiration on not only my face but my arms as well. With my face obviously red, she laughed. Knowing she ”had me“ she continued by noting how she’d seen me peering at Lillian from time to time. She added that it brought a smile to her face whenever she caught me.

I certainly wasn’t expecting all that and should’ve cut it off... but I hadn’t. After another bit of banter I looked at my watch and told her I had to get going. Still ‘pushing my buttons’ she made a motion to zip her lips but with a big grin on her face. What I had to say was serious but in her ‘giddy mood’ I wasn’t sure she’d grasp it. I started by getting her assurance that she’d not said anything to anybody about her upcoming move and stressed the need to keep it that way. Then I told her about the still pending plans for the conversion to the service bureau. I don’t think she believed me when I told her that she’d been tapped to be the leader of the tellers for inputting data even after telling her that it was OK with Hobie. After a few minutes I instructed her that she would have to be an ”actress“ when the announcement was made. The last thing I wanted was for her to slip and say she wasn’t going to be there. I think I probably reinforced that point a couple of times.

Now serious, she thanked me for ”caring about her“ and then started in about her life. I wasn’t prepared for that, especially at that time. I’d called Elle before leaving the building and told her I had a few stops to make on the way home and to put my supper aside. I knew that bought me some time so didn’t make a real effort to stop her. I’d gotten just little ‘snippets’ in the past but really knew no details... and I really did want to know. I don’t think I said more than a dozen words over the next fifteen to twenty minutes.

I’ll summarize it here the best I can. To start with she didn’t know her father... and neither did her mother. During WWII there was an Army training base in the area (about ten minutes from where we were parked) as well as USO canteen. Her mother was only a teen but would sneak out to see the soldiers who came there. One night she met a guy who was being shipped out and she felt sorry for him. One thing led to another and... well... Gina was the result. She didn't even know his name. Her mother lived with their grandmother but even with the baby her mother was out partying all the time. As Gina got older she ended up doing the same sort of things her mother had done... sneaking out at night, smoking, drinking and... drugs, such as they were back in the very early 60’s. Her first ”dose of reality“ came when her mother and grandmother were in a car accident and she had to care for them. She told me she ”straightened up“ and got a job to help out until her mother was able to go back to work. She liked the work (at the County Center) and stayed. That’s where I first saw her.

I wanted to ask about the situation and her daughter but just couldn’t. I knew some of the background of her leaving the County job after she'd gotten pregnant but not the first hand details. So, to change the subject I asked about how the baby was doing health wise after her recent procedure. That brought a smile back to her face and she, proudly, told me that her doctors said she now had a 95% chance of leading a normal life. That was when I closed it down. As she turned to get out of the car she thanked me for being a "good listener among other things". My eyes followed her walk over to her car. There was maybe a space for two cars between the two of them. When she opened her door I watched as she leaned in as if to get something from the passenger seat. As she did I saw her right hand flip her skirt up and there for all to see, especially me, was her white pantied butt. She stayed in that position for a few seconds. It was enough for me to take it all in and to recognize she was wearing bikinis. When she got in and started backing up she looked at me with the biggest grin she could muster. I sat there for a minute and knew I was going to miss her.

Later, back at home, Elle was obviously tired but in a good mood. Her first day as a substitute teacher under the new principal had been, in her eyes, successful. Kaye had not been a problem at the day care and, in fact, liked it. We had no close neighbors with kids her age and, with the exception of Sunday school, rarely had contact with more than one or two. I just let Elle talk and was relieved that the situation from two nights before had passed. With all the things at work I didn’t need aggravation at home... I had enough there.

The next morning Elle was up, washed and dressed before me, a real rarity. Her mother was going to pick Kaye up and take her to her house so she wanted to be ready for her. I remember watching her dress and was surprised that she was only wearing ‘dribble’ panties. She’d worn a partial ‘package’ the day before so I asked about it. Her classroom was one of the only ones with a bathroom attached which gave her an opportunity to just duck in without it being a major problem. I did suggest that she take a spare pair which got me a smile. Things were now back to normal, something that would be a long time coming at work.
