THE NEXT PHASE... positive signs (Part 64e)

Tuesday was Election Day and the whole office was a bit uptight. Everyone was aware that there was a distinct possibility that the Controller could lose. I, because I was so new, had no idea of the ramifications should that happen. I listened to the ”whispers“ but didn’t understand. I finally asked Irwin if he could go over the whole situation. I knew absolutely nothing about local politics so it was a whole new world that he explained to me.

The County had traditionally been heavily Republican. The governing body was the Board of Supervisors which was made up of the elected Supervisor from each of the ten townships. The present Board had eight Republicans and two Democrats. But, because of political corruption throughout the County, there was a wave of Democratic sentiment leading up to the election. As far as the Audit and Control department was concerned, the Controller, a Republican, had persuaded the Board of Supervisors to get the computer and to put it under his control. The County Treasurer, a Democrat, was upset, especially with the fact that his department would no longer be responsible for creating the County payroll. The fear was that if the Controller lost the election and the Board of Supervisors ended up being split with five Republicans and five Democrats, the Treasurer would petition to have the payroll returned to him along as well as getting control of the computer. Irwin told me, again, that Jay was the only non elected, non civil service person being paid by the County and if things were to change he might lose his job.

That half hour with Irwin explained a lot and gave me an idea of what was going on in Jay’s mind. The only thing I said to Jay that day was to let me know if he needed help to call me. That night I ended up listening to the local election results. I tried to explain to Elle just why but it was useless. She didn’t really want to know.

The Controller won and the Board of Supervisors remained in Republican control, six to four. It was about 2am when I finally went to bed. Elle thought I was crazy since I was so apolitical. But this was about my job and it mattered. I really couldn’t sleep so went in early hoping I’d get a chance to see Jay before anyone else got there. I wanted to find out how Nina was doing with the Police payroll. He was already there when I walked in and I remember saying something like ”We won!“. He threw up his hands like it didn’t matter. I asked what was wrong and he just turned to all the trays spread out on the work tables. Then he said that Nina hadn't marked them. There was no way to readily know which tray was to be processed first and then second, etc. It would take precious time to get them in proper order. He said that Nina hadn’t used the manual that I’d created. I asked Jay if he wanted me to help and he shook his head signifying ”no“. He said that if it ended up being f****d up, so be it. It was all in Nina’s hands.

Nine o’clock came. Then 9:15 and then 9:30am and still no Nina. I saw the Controller’s secretary walk into the computer room and then I saw Jay throw his hands up in the air and storm out of the computer room. He headed right for Irwin’s desk. The two of them left and went into the vacant Deputy Controller’s office. I knew something was up and about 20 minutes later Jay came and got me. We went into the office where Irwin was sitting behind the desk. He looked at me and without wasting any time asked me if I would be willing to work in the computer room with Jay. I had no idea what was going on and certainly had never entertained any thoughts of really working in there. I hesitated at first and then said ”sure“. Irwin said that it was not official as the Controller had to sign off on it. I was not to say anything that indicated that I was doing anything more that filling in. He went on to say that if the current test worked out and the next two payroll runs which were to be run along with the Treasurer’s run were OK that he was almost positive that it would be my job.

I heard what he was saying but it wasn’t registering. I was in sort of a daze as I walked out with Jay. He was already working on how to remedy Nina’s latest screw up as we walked. By the time we did we were already six hour behind. It meant but one thing... a late night... again. I was so excited that I completely forgot that I was supposed to go home at lunch so Elle could have the car. It wasn’t until it got dark outside that it came to me. I called and it was easy to tell that she was more than a little upset. I knew enough not to ask if she could fix up a meal for Jay so I just said I’d be home when I could. She hung up on me.

It was around 10pm when all the cards had been through the computer. Since the Police payroll was the shorter of the two we knew we had enough time the next morning to do the printout and even do a dummy run with the checks themselves. BUT... we were both so psyched that we decided to go ahead with the printout. Setting up the printer was the one thing I hadn’t been shown in detail so Jay did it. We both were anxious to see the finished product. It was a little after midnight when the last page printed. We were both running on adrenaline but, in my mind, there was one thing more... was it in proof? I wanted to do it right then and there but Jay said ”No“. Even without that I had a great feeling of accomplishment as we turned off the lights. What I didn’t have a good feeling about was what I was going to have to listen to when I got home.

THE NEXT PHASE... positive signs (Part 64d)

I guess you could say it was good and bad that Jay did come home with me. Of course there was some explaining to do with Elle but she responded nicely by whipping something up for Jay to eat. The good part was that it gave the two of us the chance to get to know each other on a personal basis. I learned that he was two years older than I was and that, very much to my surprise, he was married and had a two year old daughter. He got involved in computers as a sorter operator for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore. As a result of that job he got the opportunity to go to a Univac (a major competitor of IBM at the time) programming school. It also allowed him to come back home as Univac headquarters were located only 30 miles from there. But the biggest and best piece of information that I was able to glean from him was that he had been involved in stock car racing before moving to Baltimore. Before he was married he had owned a modified race car. (A few words of explanation... The class I’d been involved with had very strict rules as to engine size and allowed modifications. A ”modified“ race car had no engine restrictions and were faster.) I was very surprised to find out about his involvement in racing but was in awe of the fact that he had owned a ”modified“. Once we got into discussing racing Elle sort of backed away from the conversation. It had been my/our intention to get a bite to eat and then to quickly return to work. However, once the conversation turned to racing the clock was forgotten. It was easily after 8pm when we finally headed back. There was so much to do that, once back, we concentrated on the tasks at hand.

It was after midnight when we turned out the lights. Jay had gone over each and every step of the payroll process right from the time the biweekly payroll records were to delivered to Linda and Donna right through to delivering the printed paychecks to the Treasurer’s office with me writing down each and every step. On the way home I remember thinking that even though I’d had very little hands on time operating the peripheral equipment that I could actually do it. I wondered what would happen the next day.

True to her usual start time Nina walked in a bit after 9am. However, she did go straight into the computer room. I tried to keep an eye on her but it was hard. When she took her coffee break I slipped into see Jay. I didn’t have to say anything. The look on his face told the story. The only thing I said was that if he needed help to just come and get me.

At 5pm Nina walked out. I was into the computer room seconds later. I didn’t know Jay well enough to get an accurate ”read“ on the situation but it was obvious that he was frustrated. I asked if he was ready for some help and he said he was going home. I gave him my telephone number and told him to call if he wanted help or just have company if he did come back.

I worked at the trailer park on Saturday. Even though I was counting on the money I’d earn that day I was a bit disappointed that Jay hadn’t called. The whole computer thing was new and exciting to me and I wanted to get more involved. As it turned out I was just impatient. At around10am Sunday morning the phone rang and it was Jay. He’d thought about what I’d said concerning the ”test“ also being a test for him as well. He’d decided to go ahead without Nina and to get it done. Even though it put no money in my pocket I was excited. Elle wasn’t! She’d been ”mumbling“ about me being late for supper and also not having the car available when she needed it. I tried to explain my thinking but it clearly passed over her head.

At least what Nina had done had been done correctly. It helped in that we could just move forward. I know that Jay, if he’d been doing it himself, would’ve been quicker than with me helping but he was the perfect teacher. I got home around 9pm to a very unhappy Elle.

Monday morning I finally had something real to work with. The print out that we’d created the night before had to be ”proofed“ and that was my job. As I worked on it I couldn’t help but wonder what Nina was thinking, saying or doing. It was hard to concentrate as I thought about the situation. From the standpoint of the ”proof“, the numbers checked out with the numbers from the last real payroll developed by the Treasurer’s office. I let Jay know via phone rather than to go see him so as to not create any more of a problem with Nina than he already had. He just said ”Thanks“.

I stayed away from the computer room for the whole day. After everybody had gone I finally went in to see Jay. He had told her that he had run out of time and had to complete the test. But he told her that she was to do the ”test“ for the Police payroll all by herself and that it HAD to be done by noon on Thursday. He said he would answer her questions but that she had to physically do the whole thing. (Note: The full County payroll was for approximately 2400 employees. The police payroll was for 1300 employees. They got paid on alternate weeks) I asked what her reaction was and he just shook his head but wouldn’t comment. I knew enough to keep my mouth shut but I had the feeling that it wasn’t going to happen.

THE NEXT PHASE... positive signs (Part 64c)

I stopped by Irwin’s desk the next morning and told him I wasn’t getting very far with Nina and asked if I could go talk with Jay, the programmer. It was sort of a Catch 22 for him in that Jay was not an official part of the Audit and Control department and he was concerned that I might be a distraction for him. He finally agreed. It only took a few minutes for Jay and I to bond. In fact I was a pleasant relief for him because it didn’t take long for me to realize that Nina and he did not see eye to eye. He showed me all the peripheral equipment for the computer and even introduced me to Linda and Donna. Then he gave me an overview of the whole process. In less than half an hour I learned more than I’d learned from Nina in a whole afternoon. He was careful not to openly criticize Nina but it was clear to see that his frustration was right below the surface. His biggest complaint was that she hadn’t spent any time learning the operation of the peripheral equipment such as the sorter, collator and printer and it was almost time for the first full test.

On the way home all I could think about was where I was going to get enough money to live on until I got paid by the County. The ”killer“ was that the rent was due by the 15th. I decided to stop at the office and see if Dick would let me wait until that Friday. I wanted to be up front about the situation. He looked up at me and with a smile reminded me that he owed me $1,100 for the camp trailer. I hadn’t looked at it that way. To me that money was a down payment on the new trailer that I wanted. As I was about to go out the door he stopped me and gave me $100 and said something like ”Now I only owe you $1,000“. That made me smile.

That night Elle and I sat down and basically counted out what we actually had to pay for and what could wait. Other than the $10 for the two Saturdays that I planned to work at the trailer park that was all I could count on. The big question was how much kerosene we had left and how much we would need. Night time temperatures were now in the 30’s so we set aside some ”untouchable“ dollars for that and decided we’d try to bundle up more at night. It was an uneasy sleep that night.

I went in a little early the next day to see if I could learn some more from Jay. He’d told me that he was always there at 8am when the building was officially opened. It was a good move. He actually showed me how each machine worked and let me run cards through each of them. When Nina arrived (about 10 minutes after 9am) she saw me in there with Jay and came right in without unloading all her ”stuff“ at her desk. Actually it was pretty funny as she had a big bag over her shoulder and looked a bit like a carpetbagger. She ignored me and asked Jay what I was doing. He dodged the direct question and answered by telling her that I was just ”curious“ since I’d had some exposure to some similar equipment. She turned to walk out but Jay reminded her that she was way behind on her training on the machines. Without stopping she walked away and yelled over her shoulder that she had to get her own work done first. I remember Jay standing there just shaking his head.

By this time I was getting a little concerned because no one was giving me specific direction. I felt like a ping pong ball being bounced from one area to another. It was back to Irwin’s desk again. I pleaded with him to give me some actual data to get a ”feel“ of what it was that I was to do when a payroll was completed. He made a phone call and a little while later a thin, short, wrinkled faced lady came in the room and was directed to where I was sitting. It was the printout of an earlier payroll done by the Treasurer’s office. At least it was something to look at and study. I stayed at my desk the rest of the morning, writing down my questions. At lunch break I saw Jay and asked if Nina ever came in. It was not the right question to ask at least at that moment. I decided to go back to my desk and observe.

Gina came into the room around mid afternoon to tell Irwin that the Controller was in his office. As soon as I heard that I looked up and saw Jay turn the corner by the counter and out of the office. About 10 minutes later he came back with the Controller and they stopped at Nina’s desk. A minute or so later I saw the three of them in the computer room. Jay was showing the Controller the various machines with Nina following closely behind. They were in there for maybe 15 or 20 minutes before the Controller left. Nina stayed. She stayed in the room with Jay until 5pm came when she walked out, picked up her big bag and her coat and left. I waited for a while until everyone was out of all the offices and headed into the computer room. When Jay saw me his face lit up with a smile.

The Controller had told Nina that her ONLY job was learning how to do the payroll... period, end of sentence. I asked him how it had gone after the Controller had left and he just shrugged his shoulders. Then I asked him if they would make the deadline for the test and he shrugged again. I asked what would happen if they didn’t get it done. This time he shook his head as if to say he really didn’t know. It was then I asked if there was something I could do to help out. Then he told me that he really didn’t know what would happen since the Controller told Nina it was her responsibility. He said that he, himself, could do it but a major part of the test was to see if Nina could do it. If I helped him it would look as if she was capable... and he was sure she wasn’t. Then I asked him if it wasn’t also a test of his programming. After a few seconds he agreed it was but he also said that he had to let Nina fail first. Then he asked if I could stay for a while and he’d give me more instructions on how the whole process worked. It was now close to 6pm and I knew Elle would be worried. I told him to come home with me and get a bite to eat and then I’d come back. (I know it’s hard to believe but there was no way to make a phone call out of the building after 5pm) He hesitated but finally gave in.

THE NEXT PHASE... positive signs (Part 64b)

He drew up a sketch of the general work area and wrote names in all the occupied desks. Then, one by one, gave me the “skinny” on each of them. He started with Gina who was the Deputy Controller’s secretary. The only thing was that there was no Deputy Controller. Irwin said that he “retired” the first of October. He explained that the position was a political appointment and the political party in control of the County government got to fill it. The county had been heavily Republican but a series of scandals had put that in question for the upcoming election. The guy who had the position knew he wasn’t going to be reappointed so he quit. In any case I was warned about Gina. I’d noticed, on both days, that she had been “dressed to kill”. She looked like she was ready to go out on a date. She was in her late 20’s with long dark hair and, according to Irwin, she was “man hunting“ even though she was married.

Next was ”GT“ who was the teenager that had caught my eye the day before. Her name was also Gina but had been called ”GT“ even in high school so it was a natural for her. She had blond hair in sort of a ”bob“ that was popular at the time. As I looked at her through the window I felt that I’d seen her before. She had graduated in June and was the newest employee.

Lynn was the next on Irwin’s sketch. He told me that she was the best worker in the office; quick, efficient and accurate. She’d worked in the office for almost 10 years and had taken and passed tests for a higher position but refused them wanting to stay in the Audit and Control department. Her title was Senior Clerk and the next higher title was Chief Clerk. There was only one position in the office for that title and that was held by Nina who had worked there for over 20 years.

Irwin, having brought up Nina’s name, jumped over to her desk on the sketch. I had already decided I liked Irwin and after he gave me the background on Nina I knew I was right. Nina held the most senior title of the staff but in Irwin's eyes was considered to be a detriment to the productivity of the office as a whole. According to Irwin, she spent most of her day getting and dispersing gossip. When she would make an attempt to act in her supervisory position the employees pretty much ignored her. I had to ask why he put up with it and I got a basic primer on life as a Civil Service employee. Basically, once hired you were there for life unless you were convicted of a crime. That was Nina. According to Irwin she knew how to ”play the game“. Then he dropped the ”bomb“. Because of her seniority she had been tapped to do the actual running of the payroll and I was going to have to make sure that what she did was right. I was already not liking what I heard.

I think he saw the look on my face because he quickly went though the rest of the ladies. Allie was a very thin redhead who, when she smiled, could be classified as cute. But she had a sour look on her face as she worked. Irwin explained that her best friend in the office had been chosen to be one of the keypunchers and she hadn’t. She still hadn’t gotten over it. Dora was the second oldest in the office. A woman in her early 50’s who, like Nina, ”played the game“ and did as little work as possible. Bev was probably one of the homeliest girls I’d ever seen but Irwin said that she was a good worker and got along with everybody.

Next were the two keypunchers who were now physically located in the room with the computer. First was Linda who had one of the highest results in accuracy on the County typing test. She was Allie’s best friend in the office but the separation had not affected her personality or work. Irwin said that she was probably the most even keeled employee they had. Her partner was Donna. Irwin made a statement about her that I’ve never forgotten and have used to describe any number of people since. He said that she had the personality of a rock. He told me that the only person that he’d ever seen her talk to with a smile on her face was her mother who worked in the Treasurer’s office. She pretty much ignored her co-workers.

By then my head was spinning. The only one left was the programmer for the computer... Jay. Irwin told me right off that he didn’t know much about him other than he came highly recommended and, since the Civil Service Commission hadn’t written a position description for Computer Programmer, he was the only non politically appointed or elected person on the payroll. I asked about the Auditors who worked under Irwin and he said he’d get around to introducing me to them but it wasn’t necessary right then.

By then it was time for lunch. Again I went to the cafeteria and tried to find some decent looking females. I was beginning to think that one sure way to get hired was to be plain looking or just flat out ugly. I was headed back to the office when I saw this 40 something woman walk in. She was stunning and my first thought was that she was must be a visitor. As I walked down the hall I remember thinking that I had to keep an eye out for her again.

Back at the office Irwin told me to start with Nina so I’d have an idea of how the system was supposed to work. Fat chance!. Nina put me through the third degree about my family, past and everything in between. I made a couple of half hearted attempts to get back on the subject at hand, the payroll. By 5pm the only thing of importance I had learned was that I wouldn’t receive my first paycheck until the 17th of the month. Yes, it was normally every two weeks but the way the County worked they paid a week late. That meant I was going to have to survive on the money from my last paycheck from the trailer park. That was a major cause for concern. At about 10 minutes to five Nina started picking up her desk. I looked around and most of the others were doing the same. I don’t know why but it was sort of a shock.

THE NEXT PHASE... positive signs (Part 64a)

Now free to tell everybody about the new job I felt it only fair to tell the “boys” first. Dick said he wasn’t surprised as he just couldn’t see me being satisfied with being a handy-man at a trailer park as a career. Ben, on the other hand, seemed to take it as a personal affront that I’d leave on such short notice. Fortunately, he walked out of the office right after I told them as it left me free to explore my “plan” with just Dick. I told him that I’d be happy to stay on and work on Saturdays and I’d also still be willing to be the emergency contact at night and weekends. He had no problem with that at all which made me relax a bit. Then I told him about my “dream” to buy one of the new 60 foot trailers with the pop out living room. Of course his eyes lit up when he heard that. I told him I would try to sell my 41 foot trailer and that I had a 16 foot camp trailer that I would also sell. I told him that now with a full time job I’d go to a bank and finance the rest. I remember him saying he was impressed with my thought process. So, with that I asked about being able to show my camp trailer at his lot for a possible sale. He hesitated a bit and then asked how much I wanted for it. As I’d mentioned before, I knew it was worth more than I’d paid for it as Harry had sold it to me basically his cost and that was for $1,000. Before I could give him an answer he said he’d give me $1,100. It was only $50 less than I was going to ask for it so almost without thinking said “yes”. I told him I’d bring it to the park over the weekend and that he could keep the money as a down payment on the new trailer. As I walked out of the office I was walking on a cloud and I hadn’t even told Elle about the job interview.

Of course Elle was excited and she let me know just how much by inviting me into our bedroom and taking one of my hands and placing it between her legs. Within seconds I felt a nice warm, wetness in her crotch. Being afternoon, the baby was napping and Jean was visiting one of her friends. Talk about “afternoon delight”; that was it for sure!

Andy, Mac and Jim seemed happy for me. Of course my grandfather was ecstatic and both my parents and Elle’s parents were pleased. I continued to work at the park until the 30th. During that period of time Elle celebrated her birthday and all I got her was a card. I’d found out that the County paid every other week and it meant that my last pay from the trailer park would have to last for two weeks. There just was no money. At least Kay came through and invited Elle to go bowling with her. The local lanes had a morning ladies league complete with babysitting. She made a small cake and made it into a party. I remember Elle being “touched” by her thoughtfulness. At dinner she told me something that I didn’t know about Andy. He was a very good bowler and competed for money a couple of weekends a month. After hearing about it I really wanted to go see him bowl. Elle had enjoyed herself and, thinking to the future, wanted to get back to bowling again. I just added it to the now ever growing list of things that I wanted to do as well.

As my first day approached a few concerns popped up. I only had one suit and one blue blazer to my name and it was obvious that a coat and tie was standard dress. I mentioned it to my grandfather when taking him to see my grandmother that Sunday. Without batting an eye he told me to meet him at the one good men’s store after work that next day. I was happy for the offer but as I thought about my grandfather’s taste in clothes I began to worry that he might try to dress me the way he dressed. It was not a good thought but, thankfully I survived the ordeal with two acceptable (to me) suits.

I walked into the office that Monday morning expecting to see Irwin. He had told me that he always arrived around 8;30am but there was no one at his desk. I didn’t know what to do so took a seat by his desk and watched as the women filed in and sat at their desks. There was only one who I considered pretty and she was obviously a teenager. In reality I was disappointed. There were a dozen women in the trailer park who were considerably more attractive than this group.

When Irwin didn’t show up by 9:30am and the only other men in the office, by then, had no idea that I’d even been hired to work there I headed for the Controller’s office. The secretary, a woman easily in her sixties, knew that Irwin was having trouble with his leg but that was all. The Controller was out for the day, electioneering at a breakfast and a luncheon. She didn’t know what to tell me so I went back to sit by Irwin’s desk and did absolutely nothing for the rest of the day. It was strange. I was going to get paid almost $20 for the day and I didn’t have to do any work to earn it. I did go to the cafeteria for lunch and saw a few cute women but on the whole was not impressed with what I’d seen.

Tuesday was better. Irwin showed up and, without explaining his absence, outlined my job responsibilities. The County had just purchased their first computer, a Univac 120 so that they could automate the payroll and, eventually, pay the bills. The computer was located on the other side of the general work area. The county had only hired a programmer to get started and since it was a punchcard driven system, had tapped two of the clerks in the department to be keypunchers. The plan was to run a test payroll in November. My job was to “proof” (audit it for accuracy) it and all payrolls that were to follow. Payroll was presently done semi manually by the Treasurer’s office and Irwin warned me that they were none too pleased to lose that function. Upon hearing what my job was I was anxious to get started but Irwin told me that he wanted me to have the “skinny” on the people in the office. He said it would make my job a lot easier if I knew from the start who to “trust” and who to avoid. That was a bit of a surprise to hear from my boss.

SETTLED... at least I thought so (Part 63f)

The second time through the department I wasn’t as intimidated. The only thing I didn’t like was that this older saleswoman came up to me and told me I looked ”lost“. Of course I was embarrassed. I remember trying to think of something to say to get her to go away. I really didn’t want to look at her so I looked over her shoulder and saw this really fancy pair of panties hanging on a ”T“ display on the counter. From out of somewhere I came up with the fact that my wife had a birthday coming up and I wanted to get a really nice pair of panties for her. It was as if she knew I was looking at those panties because she then said that she had the perfect pair and turned around and put her hand right on them. As she let the panties drape over it I know she saw me blushing. I think I managed to stammer out that I needed a size 5 and then she smiled one of those "knowing" smiles that make you want to cringe. I had only a dollar and some change left and was afraid I wouldn’t have enough to buy them. The price was $1.79, more than I'd ever paid for any panty. I hadn’t bought any panties since I’d bought the Plymouth nylon satin ones during the Winter when working for Dan and they only cost 69 cents each. When she told me the price I asked that, if by chance, the store carried panties made by Plymouth. She said she didn’t think so but since the ”buyer“ was in the store she could check with him. More to get out of an embarrassing situation than really wanting to know I said ”yes” and she motioned for me to follow her. We went into a small office where this young man, probably not much older than I, was seated at a desk. He told me that Macy’s didn’t carry that brand but he was familiar with it. He asked if I knew anything about the “garment district”, specifically Orchard Street. I didn’t but he then wrote down some information on his business card and handed it to me. Then he told me how to get to Orchard Street. I thanked him but felt embarrassed again and really wanted to get out of there. As I followed the lady I tried counting the change in my pocket without looking. She’d been so helpful I felt that I should at least buy that one pair of panties she’d showed me. It must have looked silly to see a grown young man, in a suit, counting pennies. In any case I had enough and I left, happy, with a pair of off white Munsingwear fancy panties.

I never really got a close look at them before she wrapped them up nicely in tissue paper and put them in a bag for me. I was so nervous I still couldn't remember if I’d told her Elle’s size. There was really no place for me to inspect them plus I only had a short time to get to the train station. The train was very crowded and once on it there was still no place where I felt comfortable in opening the bag. I ended up stuffing them in my overcoat pocket and then started day dreaming about what my new job would be like.

It may be hard to believe but I actually forgot the panties were in my coat pocket. It was the first time I'd worn it since college and was so excited to see Elle and to tell her about the exam I just took it off and hung it in the closet. I really don’t remember much about the next week, that is until Friday. Elle found me building the frame for another patio pad. She’d gotten the mail and there was a letter from the State Civil Service Commission. I ripped it open and saw that I’d scored a 92 on the test. If what Mrs K had told me was true I’d be hearing from the County the following week. This news was both good and bad. I wanted to announce it to the world but I knew I had to wait. The waiting lasted until either Wednesday or Thursday of the following week when I got a telephone call to set up an interview. I called Mrs K for reassurance. She laughed and told me to relax. Easy for her to say.

When I found out that I’d be interviewed by the County Controller I got very nervous. I was familiar with his name as he was up for reelection. I didn’t know what to expect. I wanted to look as "professional" as I could so took the overcoat. It had been threatening to rain so I had an excuse to wear it. It wasn't until I went to put my car keys in the pocket after I arrived at the Center that I found the panties. I stopped and I know I was blushing as I stood by the car. I kept walking though and told myself to be calm.

I found the Controller to be really nice and he put me at ease right away when he said he was going to let the Chief Auditor do “the dirty work”. The man’s name was Irwin, a short rotund man who walked with a limp. When he walked in the smile on his face was ear to ear. He grabbed my hand and I thought he’d crush it. Before I could say anything at all he, never letting go of my hand, said he'd like to show me the office. I was really at his mercy as his grip was so strong. Once outside he apologized but immediately added that it was for my own good. I didn’t understand but there wasn’t much I could say. I followed him down the hall a short way and walked into this open work area. As we walked in there was a counter with nothing on it and not manned by anyone. Without my asking he pointed to it and shrugged his shoulders as if to say he had no idea why it was there. I saw a bunch of women working at desks as I followed Irwin around the end of it and I noted that the age range of the women was from teen to past middle age. We walked into another room with seven desks in it and there were two men working. I followed him to a desk at the front of the room. He motioned me to sit down and I was glad to do it.

He explained that if we’d stayed in the Controller’s office I would’ve ended up listening to an election speech and then he started laughing. About the only I thing I was asked in the “interview” was if I was ready to start. I told him I could be there the next day but he explained that I’d have to wait until the next “pay cycle” which would mean I’d start on Monday, October 30th. Even though it was only a matter of days it was still another wait. I was tired of waiting but at least I knew, for sure, I had a real job.

As I got to the car and went for my keys I felt the panties in my coat pocket again. I pulled them out and spread them on the car seat. They looked huge! I quickly looked for the label and it read "size 5". The only thing I could think of was that they had put the wrong label in the panties. I knew that Elle would never wear them and decided that since I'd bought them the day I took and passed the test for the job I'd put them in my "stash" as a reminder of that day. I was disappointed about the panties but still ecstatic about having the job.

SETTLED... at least I thought so (Part 63e)

Of course the whole neighborhood was there to see what was going on. When Lola showed back up she was devastated, especially with her husband away. She’d taken the kids to the drive in movies as they were restless without their father around. Mac and I walked her through the trailer and there was no way she was going to be able to stay there. Elise, Mac’s wife, offered to take Lola’s oldest for the night since he was friends with both of her kids. Elle offered our sofa bed to Lola and her youngest boy. She’d tried to take some clothes from the trailer for her and her boys but they just smelled terrible.

It was around 2am when we all finally went to bed. Being late September it had cooled off quite a bit. We only had one blanket for the sofa bed so I left the heat up. When it turned light, as tired as I was I knew I had to get up and go to work. I took my work clothes and headed through the living room to the bathroom. I noted the sleeping Lola and her son as I did. When I came back out it was a sight to behold. She had rolled over and her backside was exposed. There wasn't enough light to determine color but I could see the crotch line. I only stood there for a few seconds and then headed out the door. I was now very much awake!

When I came home for lunch I saw clothes that I didn’t recognize on our wash line. Elle explained that Lola had been able to get some of the people who were scheduled to use the washing machines at the meeting hall to let her wash her smoke smelling clothes. Lola and her son were gone. She’d been able to get in touch with her husband who was flying home and she was on her way to the airport to pick him up. I went into the bathroom to wash my hands and to use the toilet and saw the wooden clothes rack that usually held Elle's panties filled with a bunch of multicolored nylon panties, plus bras and slips on it. They definitely weren't Elle's. Some were even hanging from the faucet handles and over the shower curtain rod. I wanted to reach over and to inspect some of them so badly but I didn’t dare. Elle was making lunch in the kitchen which was right on the other side of the bathroom and I was afraid she might walk in on me. But I was tempted.

That afternoon I was working on some of the new pads on the back road of the park when I saw Elle walking past with the baby. If it was nice out she’d often go for a walk around the park on her way to the cluster mailboxes which were out by the main road. As she walked away I realized it would probably take her 15 minutes to get back to the trailer. I took off on a dead run to get back there and headed straight for the bathroom. The first three panties I touched were made by Kayser with the tube elastic around the waist. A quality panty for sure. They were all pale pastel colors with lace cutouts. But it was two pair of white panties that caught my attention. They weren’t fancy with lace appliques or lace cut outs but they had a leg opening treatment like I’d never seen before. They had regular elastic but attached was this sheer, maybe 3/8 wide, tube of nylon that gave the appearance of lace because it was somewhat puckered. I really wanted to take one of them but with her living so close by and possibly staying there again that night I didn’t dare. I’d taken more time than I’d planned so I carefully hung them back up and quickly returned to work. I had to carefully cover my bulge though.

They didn’t stay with us that night. Tom had gotten in touch with their insurance company and they had authorized them to stay at the local motel while the trailer was being thoroughly cleaned. I went to sleep that night thinking about Lola’s panties and happy that I’d had the opportunity to give some a good inspection.

The following week was the week before I had to go to the city for the exam. It was a blur to me. I do remember going down to my parents house and trying to find my old Accounting text book so I could do a little review. I wanted no part of driving into the heart of the city so planned on taking the train. There were only two trains to the city; one at around 6am and another around 2:30pm. Since the exam was at 10am I had to take the early one. I couldn't sleep and was up and ready around 4am. The trip took almost 3 hours and got me into the city with little time to spare.

Mrs K was right. The exam was nothing to worry about although I wasn’t sure about one section. I was done well before the two hour time limit. Before leaving, my grandfather had given me money for the train and for lunch. I’d been to an Automat (It was a precursor to fast food in that you looked at your choices through a little window in a small door and then put in coins, opened the door and took your food) once when I was in my early teens and decided I’d try to find one. There were just two trains a day that headed back with the first leaving around 9:30am and the other at 4:30pm. I had over four hours to kill and after eating decided to go to Macy’s, the worlds biggest department store (at least at that period in time) to look around. It had eight floors and took up most, if not all, of a whole city block. There was certainly one area that I really wanted to visit... the lingerie department.

I can tell you that I saw more panties, girdles, bras and slips right there than I’d seen, cumulatively, in my life. There were tables filled with them. They were displayed on stands that sat on display counters. They were under the glass of the display counters. I will tell you that I was a tad overwhelmed. I had to leave for a while. Later, I actually got lost in the store trying to find my way back.

SETTLED... at least I thought so (Part 63d)

After we got the kids to bed we started talking about a lot of things that we’d both pushed into the background. For me it was the potential to lead a somewhat normal life. I’d never real thought about it before because I’d never had a job even when going to school, that didn’t require abnormal hours. I’d done some quick calculations and if the ”boys” would allow me to continue to work Saturdays I’d be making over $115 per week and would even have time for my family. For Elle, my having a full time, permanent job would mean that she would, hopefully, be able to use her teaching degree, if only on a part time basis as a substitute teacher. In discussing it with me she said that Alice (the new resident that she’d just befriended) had offered to watch the kids if Elle ever decided to try it. Somehow, a lot of things were coming together for us. We ended up getting so engrossed in the “what ifs” that Elle had failed to put on her night time “package”. We were still talking, in bed and in the dark, when Elle who was in my arms, sat up suddenly. She muttered that she was “tinkling” and started to get up. I grabbed her and pulled her back and over me. I could feel the warmth of her pee as I rubbed her back and kissed her. It took a few seconds for her to relax and then it got really interesting. It was probably the best sex we’d had in a long time. Usually it was me who would fall asleep but we both did. The next thing I knew I saw a light from the bathroom. Elle had peed again and the bed was a real mess. It was around 2am and we ended up striping the bed and then taking a shower together. Wide awake, we ended up sitting in our underwear in the living room, continuing the talk we’d been involved in all evening. We finally “crashed” around 4am.

We decided not to say anything about my job prospect to any of our friends, choosing to wait until it was fact. I filled out the application for the test and during my lunch break delivered it to Mrs K. She had looked up the date of the test and it was a week from the upcoming Saturday. I knew it would be a long eight days.

On Friday two of the new trailers for display arrived. They were even longer than the three we’d just placed and one of them had a new wrinkle. It had a “pop-out” that would add an extra 8’x10’ to the living room. The trailer was delivered with the “pop-out” actually inside the unit itself. The “boys” (and I) couldn’t wait to start setting it up. We had most of it done by late Saturday afternoon and it just blew me away. At 60’ it had three bedrooms, a separate dining area and an 18“x10 living room. I knew that I wanted one... but I also was smart enough not to tell Elle about it. One of the things that, even during the leanest times for us during the Summer, I had resisted doing and that was to sell the camp trailer that I’d bought the previous year. I just wanted to be absolutely sure that I didn’t have a change of heart about leaving the horse business. The trailer was worth more than I’d paid for it, even a year later. I also knew that trailers around the size of mine (41’) were not as plentiful now with the new longer ones (50 to 60 feet) being the ”in thing“. I had come to the conclusion that it wouldn’t be hard to sell mine, in place, to a young couple starting out or to an older retired couple. Based on some information I’d gleaned from hanging around the office I felt I’d be able to sell it for almost as much as I’d paid for it. The new model that I’d just help set up cost a little over $7,000. If I got what I hoped for my two units I’d only need a little over $2000. I’d overheard a number of people who had been looking at new trailers talk about ”bank financing“. The only thing needed to get it was a full time job. I think you can see what my thought process was at the time.

I really had to resist telling Elle about the newest trailer. We continued to play more of the ”waht if“ game after supper. When Elle went to give the girls their pre bedtime baths she asked me to close the curtains. When I went to close the large ones on Tom and Lola’s side I thought I saw an orange glow flickering in their rear door window. It had the type of glass that you can’t see though clearly. It was hard to tell what it was because the lights from inside our trailer were reflecting on our glass windows. I turned out the main light and still saw it. I went outside to investigate.

I knew that Tom was away at some sort of training for his work but I also knew that Lola had their car. It wasn’t in front of their trailer when I headed in that direction. I went right to the back door and there definitely was an orange glow and I could smell burning rubber. I ran to the front door just to make sure no one was home and after a few seconds ran back to my trailer to call the fire department. (We didn’t have 911 back then) I told Elle what I’d seen and ran back outside to wait for the Fire Trucks. I gave specific instructions on how to find the right road and wanted to be able to point to the right unit. It took them about 15 minutes to get there. With all the cars parked in the street it took some time to make it down the street. It was a volunteer fire department which meant that many of them would be driving their own cars. Talk about utter chaos!

The first two to arrive wanted to chop through the back door with fire axes. I was able to convince them that a couple of crow bars in the door jamb would do the job. When the door was opened I could see flames coming from the door of the dryer. It was one of those stackable units where the washer in on the bottom and the dryer was on the top. Two men jumped up inside the trailer and one opened the door. A huge fireball jumped out at them and the one who had opened the door screamed out in pain. By then some of the others had run the fire hose to the hydrant. One guy had the nozzle pointed right at the door when a guy who I guessed was the chief showed up and told them not to use water but to get a dry chemical extinguisher from one of the trucks. By then there was little in the way of flames. It only took them a few minutes to find the culprit. Lola had washed a rubber backed bath mat and put it into the dryer and then left. I spoke with the guy who I thought was the Chief and he said there was almost no fire damage but the smoke damage was extensive.

SETTLED... at least I thought so (Part 63c)

In the back of my mind was the “bet” between Mac and Lil. I’d seen Mac a few times and it almost seemed like he was trying to avoid me. About mid week I ran into Jim and, since he was the one who had told me about the whole thing, I asked what he knew about it. He wasn’t willing to talk that much but he did tell me that Mac and Lil (and Andy) had supposedly worked something out. I didn’t know what that meant and still didn't know who had won and who had lost. Jim wasn’t very forthcoming about it. By now I was really puzzled.

A coastal storm messed up the plans for spreading topsoil over some of the newest pads that Andy had cleared across the back part of the park. The new guy the “boys” had hired wasn’t keeping up with the job so I was pressed back into action. The rain made it so there were no clothes line peeks but on two of the service calls I made there was some lingerie hanging on temporary lines hanging in the bathrooms. I found one of them to be interesting in that the panties were the Carter’s Spanky pants with little flowers that I’d seen Ruthie wearing during the Summer. I had no money to spare but put it in my mind that when I did I’d have to try and find some.

Saturday the weather cleared but the ground was too wet to work in. Andy had tried but got his bulldozer buried in the sand. The “boys” had contracts on two more of the new trailers and were expecting a delivery of three more new ones that next week. They wanted to get the sold units in place so the newer ones could be displayed. We were out of cement blocks that were used under the trailers to stabilize them so I got sent to get a new supply. I’d done this a time or two and knew the foreman at the plant to be known as Larry and that everything had to go through him. He wasn’t there when I got there. I asked around and finally this heavy set woman with a huge smile on her face showed up and asked if she could help. I explained that I’d been told that I HAD to deal with Larry and he wasn’t there. She laughed and said that it was OK. She was Mrs Larry and laughed again. I placed the order and loaded the blocks on the pick up truck and then went to sign the order ticket. She saw it was for the trailer park and mentioned that she had baby sit for both of the “boys” when they were young. It was further evidence of small town living. Then she looked at my signature and asked if I was related to anyone in town as she recognized my last name. I mentioned my grandfather and she then laughed again (she did that a lot) and said “You must be Rick’s son“. I was and acknowledged it to her. She and my father had gone to school together.

I spent the next twenty minutes tracing my life’s travels for her. When I was done she sounded like my grandfather when she asked why I wasn’t using my college diploma. My answers weren’t satisfactory to her and it was almost like an order when she told me she wanted to see me in her office sometime the following week. I thought she meant at the cement block factory but then she handed me a card. On it read ”Deputy Director: County Civil Service". She then explained that her father owned the cement factory and her husband, Larry, managed it. She told me how to find her office and sent me on my way. As I drove back to the park I wasn’t quite sure what had just happened.

I didn’t say anything to my grandfather when I took him to visit my grandmother on Sunday. I barely mentioned it to Elle just casually saying that I had another interview but I didn’t know for what. She gave me a puzzled look and let it pass.

Monday and Tuesday were taken up setting the new trailers on their pads. On Wednesday I called the lady and asked if I could come in late in the afternoon as I didn’t want the ”boys“ to know I was out looking for a job. She told me to come in around 5:30pm and she would wait. The building was new and not yet fully occupied. It took a bit of searching to find her office. She was waiting at the receptionist’s desk and had a few sheets of paper for me. I’d told her on Saturday that I was an Economics major with a concentration in Public Finance. After greeting me she held up one of the papers. Across the top in bold type it read ”STAFF ACCOUNTANT“. Then she said ”the position is yours... all you have to do is take a test.“ I was dumfounded. I had no idea what the job description was nor the pay. I was almost speechless. When she realized that she had overwhelmed me she slowed down a bit and let me read the paper she’d given me. Three things jumped right out at me. First was the $97.50 for a 35 hour, five day week. Next was that I’d get nine paid holidays and two weeks paid vacation. The last was that I’d be eligible for hospitalization and medical coverage for both me and my family after three months employment. I remember just staring at the words on the paper. Finally she broke the spell with one word... ”Well?“ I turned and looked at her and saw that same big smile I’d seen on Saturday at the cement block factory. I decided that I liked this woman... a lot!

The long and short of the process was that I had to take a State administered test; wait for my score and see where I stood on the list for the County; be interviewed by the County Comptroller and start work. The lady, who wanted to be called Mrs K, said it would probably be around Halloween before I would be able to start. After reading about the pay, hours and benefits I was ready to start the next day. As I left she told me not to worry about the test or the list. The test was known to be easy and the job had been open for a few months and no resident from the County had even taken the test. Pass it and the job was mine was the way I took it.

Even though it only took about five or six minutes to get home it seemed like an hour. I couldn’t wait to tell Elle... and eventually, my grandfather. Another change coming in my life and this time I couldn’t wait for it to happen!

SETTLED... at least I thought so (Part 63b)

When I got in the car I took a close look at them and was disappointed in that they weren’t in very good shape. I only had the light from the dash to see by and what I really wanted to know was who made them. It took a little bit of work but I was able to flatten out the label enough to read “Evette”. It was a new name for me. As I looked them over I realized that I had a bulge. As I said, I was disappointed that they were in such poor shape but it made sense because if they were in good shape Ronnie would’ve taken them to Florida. As I drove home I went back to concentrating on what I hoped Elle and I would be doing in just a short time. I left the panties in the trunk of the car when I got home. I’d transferred my “stash” of panties that I didn’t want Elle to know about over to my grandfather’s garage. As I was going to take him to the hospital to see my grandmother on Saturday I felt it was the safest place for them. Let’s just say that I enjoyed the rest of my evening.

As soon as I walked in the door Elle told me that Jim had been looking for me. I knew he was installing the same skirting under his trailer as I had and thought that maybe he was having trouble. When I got there he was talking to a couple of guys. He waved me up to them and then introduced me to his cousin, the race car driver. As I’d mentioned before. I remembered his name from the last year I owned my race car but didn’t recognize him. We chatted about some of the people we each knew from the track and then he left to go to practice held prior to the races that evening. As soon as he and the other guys left Jim started pressuring me to go to the races with him that night. It was closing night and there was to be a special extra lap race. If I hadn’t talked with his cousin about the racing people we each knew I probably wouldn’t have even given a thought to going... but I had. I didn’t commit right then and there. I said I’d let him know and headed home.

It was a big surprise when Elle didn’t have a problem with me going. Once she said it was OK I started getting excited. If it weren’t the last night of racing I’m not so sure that the “OK” would’ve been given so readily. She said that she’d get in touch with Jim’s wife and maybe get together with her.

A lot had changed in the four years since I had my last car race. A new, more powerful class of cars were now racing. Jim’s cousin was racing in the faster division. The division my car had raced in was still racing and there were still quite a few of the same drivers competing. But there were a handful who had moved up as well. That made it more interesting for me. Jim’s cousin finished third and was runner up for the points championship. We went into the pits afterwards and congratulated him. I wandered around a bit and got to say hello to a couple of people I knew from my days at the track. I remember lying in bed that night and thinking back to my car racing days.

I’d promised to take my grandfather to the hospital to see my grandmother on Sunday. It was always sad to see her just lying there like a vegetable. She couldn’t speak and her side was still paralyzed. But my grandfather was faithful, going to see her every day. One thing I knew I’d hear from my grandfather was that I needed to get a job that utilized my college degree. On this Sunday there was something different... he had arranged an interview for me with a good friend of his. The man was Chairman of the Board at a small local bank. I’d heard my grandfather mention his name from time to time. The fact that it was at a bank didn’t thrill me as I still remembered my experience in college as a bank intern for a few weeks. There wasn’t much I could say so I didn’t say anything.

An interview mean a suit and a tie. I still had a suit but hadn’t worn it in two years. I tried it on that night and it still fit. In a way I was hoping that it wouldn’t so I could postpone the meeting. I don’t remember which day it was but I do remember how nervous I was. I walked in and asked for the name my grandfather had given me. I was taken into an office and the man wasn’t old like my grandfather but looked to be about my father’s age. I was puzzled and so was the man.

It was his father I was to meet with. It took a minute or two to get it sorted out but the man had the same name as his father and he was the President of the bank. By the time I’d met and chatted with the right person I knew I didn’t want the job I was offered. It was as a teller for $45 a week. I was making around $80 a week at the trailer park. The fact that I worked almost twice as many hours didn’t matter to me. It was the gross dollars that I was interested in. In talking to Elle that evening about the mix up she told me that the son lived in the town that we both grew up in. In talking about it I realized that I used to deliver groceries to his house. I vaguely remembered his wife as being very nice (I would usually get a tip) and pretty.

Elle had made a point of following up her meeting with Alice, the new lady, and had volunteered to go with her to find the different food stores and other places she might need. She was in the trailer when I got there for lunch. I didn’t expect to find anybody there and when I walked in I surprised both of us. She was sitting on the floor playing with her daughter and Jean, my oldest. She was wearing a dress and when she saw me she tried to jump up but didn’t quite make it. As she fell backwards and into the sofa her one leg lifted and I got a nice panty peek. There was no way for her not to have known that I’d seen up her skirt. She was very embarrassed and decided to leave right away. I was sorry that she did but I knew I wanted to see more of her.

SETTLED... at least I thought so (Part63a)

Labor Day was always considered the de-facto end of Summer. 90% of Summer rentals (which drove the economy in our area) were in the months of July and August. Those people who were affluent enough to have a Summer home would return to their Winter homes and might come for a few weekend visits during the Fall months. On the one hand I was sad to see it come but on the other was looking for some “down time” to just kick back and relax. That first week after Labor Day was a busy one though. At work we were scheduled to place one of the new 55 foot long trailers into one of the new pads I'd been working on. It was supposed to be done that Wednesday but the electricians hadn’t finished their work. I’d been working full time on building and preparing the new pads for a few weeks and had been rewarded with a 10 cent an hour raise. Ben and Dick had hired a new guy to take over my other duties which I knew I would miss. No longer would I have up close viewing of wash lines and the laundry left behind at the meeting hall washing machines. But it was more money and I really enjoyed working outside with my hands.

It was Thursday when the attempt to place the new trailer was made. We ran into difficulty right at the beginning. When the park had originally been laid out and the roads paved they had used the longest trailers available at the time (40 feet) to develop the turning angles. With 15 feet of additional length there just wasn’t enough room to make a 90 degree turn. We (and I include Ben and Dick) had to remove fences, sheds and cut down trees to accomplish this. What should’ve taken a few hours stretched into the afternoon. Around noon the family who had purchased the unit showed up fully expecting to have access to it. It was still in the street and, in that position, was blocking egress for the majority of the residents. Because I hadn’t come home for lunch Elle came looking for me. As luck would have it she ended up speaking to the lady who had bought the trailer. It turned out to be the same lady who I’d seen Dick showing the lot to when Andy was still clearing the area. I didn’t recognize her at first as she was wearing slacks and when I’d originally seen her she was wearing a rather sheer dress. She was fairly attractive with short, dark hair. When I saw her with Elle she had a young girl with her. I walked over to them and Elle introduced us telling me her name was Alice and the daughter was Julie. The daughter was clinging to her mother’s leg and my daughter, Jean, was clinging to Elle’s leg. It was pretty funny. I could only stay with them for a minute as the “boys” (Ben and Dick) were ready for the next phase of the move.

We finally got it in place around 4pm or so. When we turned on the water there was a leak and I was sent under the trailer to find and fix it. I came out wet and muddy and even though there was still more work to be done I headed home to get cleaned up and changed. Once there Elle filled me in on our new residents. They had come from Texas and the husband was transferred to work on developing the proposed Lunar Module. Upon hearing that I immediately thought about Mac’s and Lil’s argument that Jim had told me about. I couldn’t wait to tell Mac about the guy. When I’d seen their daughter I thought she was older than my oldest but she was actually a little younger. It was just that she was very tall for her age. Elle told me that the two of them had gotten over their shyness and seemed to be getting along well by the time she left.

Elle also told me that she’d gotten a call from Frank (my sailing club mate). He had left, driving, for his permanent home in Florida on Tuesday arriving there that morning. He thought that some important papers he needed for his work were in Florida but had been unable to find them. The only people he really knew on a local basis was Rex (the boat builder) and me. When he couldn’t reach Rex he tried me and asked if I could go to his Summer house and try to find them. Because he’d given me the part I’d needed a few weeks back and hadn’t yet paid him for it I was willing to do it for him. But, as I got into my clean, dry clothes Elle walked into the bedroom and told me her period was all gone. It’d been a week since we’d “played” and after hearing that news the last place I wanted to go was down to Frank’s house. I still had to finish up some things at work and as I did all I could think of was Elle and I getting together.

By the time I finished up with work it was after 6pm. As soon as I walked in the trailer I was all over Elle. She appreciated the attention but reminded me I’d have to wait until the kids were in bed. I knew that but I was really anxious. It was Elle who suggested that while she did that I could go to Frank’s. I still didn’t want to go but there was a part of me that knew I should... so I headed there.

Frank had told Elle where the key to the house was hidden and that I should look in and around the desk that was in the bigger bedroom. I was to be looking for a folio with proofs (pictures). I did and found nothing. I was upset because I’d wasted my time. By then it was getting dark and I was anxious to get back. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t just leave but I decided to take a look in the dresser before I did. There were some random clothes and just as I was about to close the drawer I noticed what appeared to be a panty elastic. I quickly picked it up and was rewarded to find they had the same waist elastic that I’d seen on their wash line just a few weeks earlier and had chickened out before taking a close look at them. Not this time. I quickly stuffed them into my pocket and headed out.

ALMOST SETTLED... and happy too (Part 62i)

The meeting after the trophy presentation represented the last time I’d see most of the group until the following spring. There were still a few boats on the beach that had to be taken home and stored for the Winter including mine and Buddy’s and I figured I’d do it the next day. Elle and I were coming back to get the kids and also to celebrate our both of our fathers birthday anyway. I was somewhat sorry to see the season end even though I’d had some disappointments. I was pleased that I’d sailed that well with an eight year old boat with eight year old sails. Most of the boats I was racing against were new within the past three years and the technology used in sailmaking, as well as the material used for it, was far superior to when mine were made. My “wish” for the next year was to be able to buy a new set. At that moment in time the chances of that happening looked VERY slim.

The next day went very well. I picked up the boat and took it to my parents to store for the winter. While I was doing that Elle and the kids played on their beach with my mother finally getting to enjoy the kids. My mother, when Elle’s mother was baby sitting them, claimed she never got to see them. Since she was the one hosting the birthday party insisted that they “were hers” for the day. Everybody seemed to have a good time but I insisted that I wanted to be back to the trailer while it was still light out. It was a struggle though and we almost made it. It was dusk when we drove down our street and as we passed Andy’s trailer saw that there was a party going on. After unloading the car and helping Elle get the kids to bed I walked down to see what was going on. It was pretty much over with only a few guys still there along with Lil. Mac and Jim were also there and it seemed to me that I’d missed something good. I had a beer and then left with Jim. On the way down the street he filled me in with what I’d missed.

It started on Sunday when Andy and Mac discovered the lake that was only a few miles away. It was located on a lightly used road. They’d been looking for a good place to go hunting when the season opened when they stumbled upon it. When they got back to the park they mentioned it to their wives who then persuaded them to take them and their kids to see it. They got some beer and headed back. One thing led to another and Lil decided to go for a swim... in her underwear. Hearing that made me almost instantly hard but that was about all Jim knew. Then, at about noon on Labor Day, Mac came knocking on Jim’s door and asked if he was interested in a party that Andy and Lil were hosting. With nothing planned he said yes. It started at about mid afternoon and by the time they got around to cooking the food the guys and Lil were pretty drunk. He said that Mac and Lil got into an argument over something having to do with the space program and the planned moon landing. (A local aerospace contractor was very involved in the design and building of the lunar module and a few of the park residents were working at the plant. When Jim told me that Mac got into an argument it didn’t surprise me. Mac was a really bright guy who knew a little about a lot of things. I liked Mac but I quickly learned that when he was fueled by alcohol, in his mind, he thought he knew everything about anything and an argument was usually the result.) Lil had made a statement and Mac took umbrage with it. There were two people in the park who could settle the matter but neither was home at the time. Mac was so sure he was right that he stated that he’d walk down the street in his underwear if he was wrong. Andy egged Lil on and got her to agree to do the same. Jim and I were standing in front of my trailer as he told me most of this. As he walked away I remember thinking to myself that it would never happen regardless of who was right and then went inside.

ALMOST SETTLED... and happy too (Part 62h)

After we crossed the finish line we had a long way to go to get back to shore. Penny was really animated and I thought it was because we’d done so well. She was seated on the floorboards and it was the first time I had a chance to relax and see if I could get a panty peek. I tried to be discrete but she was looking right at me. Finally she got up and sat on the deck and it appeared that she was embarrassed. Then she apologized and said she really had to “tinkle” (her word). Oh my heart!. She slid her butt out over the side and told me not to look at her. I honored her request but the thought of this cute girl wetting her pants was too much for me. The bulge couldn’t be hidden but she wasn’t looking at that. It took her only a short time to accomplish her task and when she finished she asked if I would lean the boat over so she could dip her butt in the water. I was hoping to see the natural wet spot but I knew I had to do what she asked. I slid into the cockpit which helped me to hide the bulge and I watched as she dragged her butt in the water. Whew!

Neither of us said anything for quite a while. It was Penny who spoke first and it was to apologize. She went on to say that she hadn’t been to the bathroom since she left home and there wasn’t time when she went to her car to change clothes. I don’t remember if I said anything or not. She kept talking and said that if she’d been in her own boat she would’ve just gone in the boat. She was laughing when she said it. That prompted me to get a little bold and I think I asked if they ever did it together or something like that. I remember her continuing to laugh. She finally slowed her laughing and, now blushing for sure, shook her head affirmatively. My bulge was now hurting me. After she had calmed down she told me that yesterday morning, because there was hardly any wind, they had been out for almost 5 hours and that they had each “tinkled” twice. On the way in they had been bailing “tinkle”, not water, out of the boat. I know I was smiling when she was telling me about it. Then she got serious and asked (pleaded) with me not to tell anyone. I nodded in agreement that I would keep her secret. We were getting close to shore by then and I’m not sure why but I started to tell her about Elle’s incontinence. At first I don’t think she believed me but then she kind of accepted it and asked how she handled it, noting that she’d never seen any evidence. I sort of laughed and told her that hadn’t been paying attention. Then it was my turn to ask her not to say anything. She nodded in agreement but hesitated and asked if she could tell her sister. What could I say... they were twins and shared everything.

As an aside... if my first place had counted I would have earned a third place for the weekend and would have qualified to go to the National Championships. The fact that I went into the weekend knowing I couldn’t go helped me to accept what had happened.

Once ashore I had to go find Elle and the kids. She’d been befriended by a couple of ladies with young children of their own and offered to let share their beach umbrellas. The timing was just about right because Elle had run out of “supplies” and the kids, without naps, were getting restless. I didn’t like leaving before the trophy presentation because I was afraid it sent a message that I was a sore loser. Penny helped me take the boat apart and to ready it for trailing back home. I was somewhat disappointed in not getting a panty peek while in the boat and kept hoping I’d get one before leaving. I’d just about given up hope when, after hitching the trailer to the car, Penny noticed that I’d left my parts box behind. I watched as she ran to get it for me and when she bent over to pick it up I was able to get a very nice VPL. At least it was something.

As far as sailing was concerned, the next two weeks finished up my season. It was just club racing on the Sundays and, I have no memory of anything memorable happening before, during or immediately after the races. That is until the second Sunday night. It was Labor Day weekend and that pretty much signaled the end of Summer. The club always held trophy night on Labor Day Sunday night so Elle and I arranged to eat with her parents as they would have the kids for overnight. Trophies for the Junior sailing program were scheduled to be handed out first at 7:30pm. It was a very popular program and the kids and their parents always filled up the inside of the building. The Senior trophies were scheduled to follow and most of the Seniors planned to arrive around 8:30pm, hoping that the youngsters would be on their way home. Elle and I got there around 8:15 or so and found a few other Seniors having to stand on the steps up to the porch. The wind was still blowing and as it was getting dark it was also getting cool. Elle had changed into a skirt and blouse and even with a sweater for her shoulders was complaining. It was about then the Buddy and his wife, Carol, saw us and with a few others that they had rounded up in tow suggested that we go up to their cottage and wait until we saw the parking lot starting to empty. Their cottage was directly behind the clubhouse only up on a bit of a bluff. We followed the others and went across the sand to the stairs. I remember Buddy once mentioning that it was 52 steps in all, one for each week of the year. Elle was walking next to Carol and they were a little way ahead. I ended up following Jimbo and Ruthie with Ruthie right in front of me. It was almost dark but there was enough ambient light to see the steps. We were about halfway up when a puff of wind blew Ruthie’s skirt up, all the way around. She stopped and tried to push it back down in front which made it go higher in the back. I was two or three steps behind and when the skirt went up my eyes were at just the right height to get a good look at her panties. Unfortunately it was too dark to get any details (if there were any) but i could see the half moon of the crotch. By the time she got control of the skirt I’d had about a ten to fifteen second look. I needed the time it took walking up the rest of the steps to calm down.

ALMOST SETTLED... and happy too (Part 62g)

Before the group broke up there was word being passed around that the reason that I hadn’t gotten the cannon when I crossed the finish line was that I wasn’t the winner. My first thought was ”how could this be?“ It was almost at that very moment that we all heard a loud ”boom“ from the race committee boat. Looking out on the water we could see one sailboat in the vicinity. With the officials still out there I couldn’t get to ask what rule I’d broken this time. As much as I liked racing a sailboat I certainly had no love of the officials that ruled the sport.

Long story short... I had gone around the course the wrong way... and so had everybody else but that one boat. That boat had been involved in the collision prior to the start but had managed to make repairs and had gone the right way. It would take too long to explain what had happened. In truth, I was partly to blame. The race officials were technically correct but were also culpable. The reason I say that is that there were 14 boats with about 10 of them that had more than 5 years of racing experience who had followed me unaware of the course change that the officials had made. In any case it was another disappointment and garnered me the nickname ”wrong way Corrigan“.

The trip home with Paul was long. I definitely felt cheated because we had beaten all the boats who had started together. We found out the other boat had received specific direction from the race officials telling him that we all were sailing the wrong course as he crossed the starting line. But how do you fight ”City Hall“. It wasn’t just me who had been disqualified as all of us had been with the exception of that one boat. The way the scoring worked was that you received the same number of points as your finishing position. If you start a race and drop out you get one more point than the last boat to finish. But, if you are disqualified you get one more point than the number of boats that are registered. With 16 boats registered we (and all who had followed me) got 17 points making it virtually impossible to be in contention for a trophy. Paul recognized this and asked if he could back out of his commitment to crew for me the next day. It was his last day to be home before returning to his base so I told him it was OK. I really wasn’t into it either. The only thing was that he didn’t ask until we were back to the trailer. My boat was still at the racing venue which meant I’d have to go back on Sunday to get it. That part didn’t make me very happy.

Sunday races weren’t scheduled to start until noon to allow those who wanted to go to church to do so. I slept in and when I did get up asked Elle if she wanted to go for a ride to go get the boat. It was another beautiful day and even though she was still burdened by her period she said yes and suggested that we make it a picnic. She made up sandwiches and I packed up some toys for the kids to play with. It was a little over an hour to get there and when I parked the car I could see that the boats on the beach were just starting to be launched. I unloaded the car and took the stuff down by the boat. I recognized the familiar face leaning against it as Penny, Pam’s sister. She was wearing a sun dress and had her shoes in her hand. She wanted to say how sorry she was that I got disqualified the day before. I asked how bad the damage on her boat was and she said it really was bad and that if they thought it could be sailed she’d be out there. By not racing in the afternoon race she and her sister had, as far as point go, finished second and because of their finish in the first race were actually in first place overall. I remember shaking my head in disbelief. Something was wrong with this scene.

Penny then asked why I wasn’t preparing to race and I told her I didn’t have a crew. Her face lit up like a roman candle and I can still hear her yell out ”I’ll crew!“ as she ran around to the side of the boat where I was standing. Elle heard her and as I looked her way she kind of shrugged her shoulders as if to say it was OK with her if I wanted to. I did and I didn’t. In the back of my mind was what my father had preached; ”finish what you start“ but, on the other hand I'd asked Elle to go on a picnic. I remember sort of hesitating pointing out that she wasn’t exactly dressed for crewing. She started running towards the parking lot yelling for me to get the boat lunched. There were still two guys who hadn’t started off for the starting line who I was able to coerce into helping me. I had started to hank on the sails when I saw Penny running across the sand. She’d changed into a pair of red shorts and a white blouse that she was buttoning as she ran. She jumped on board and I pushed us off without getting the sails fully on and without the rudder. The wind was behind us and was blowing us towards the starting line and I felt it would take longer to do it while still by the shore. At least we were headed in the right direction. We were further away than I’d hoped we’d be when I heard the starting sequence start. We almost made it but were the last boat to start.

On our way out Penny pleaded with me to tell her some of my sailing ”tricks“. She explained that by sailing with her sister they were always trying to figure out why I did so well. I’d known since I first started sailing against them that they had looked up to me. I’d never really thought about teaching racing tactics before she asked. I quickly decided that I’d tell her why I was doing what I was doing and encouraged her to ask questions.

Because we were last I decided to take a ”flyer“ like I had the previous day. The wind was what I called ”perfection”; about 8 to 10 miles per hour. It was enough to make the boat go fast without having to really work hard. I really had nothing to lose since I was already last. I explained what I was doing and pointed out what, as a local sailor, should’ve been obvious to her and that was the out going tide was working against the majority of the other competitors. We went the other way and by the first mark we were fifth. She was really impressed and couldn’t believe that no one had ever told her (or her sister) about how to use tidal action. We ended up finishing third. She was really excited that we’d come from so far behind.

ALMOST SETTLED... and happy too (Part 62f)

From the time I was eleven I was involved in some sort of racing be it sailing, cars or horses. With cars and horses out of the picture it was strictly sailing. When it appeared that week that I wouldn’t be racing on the weekend it was quite a disappointment. The lateness of Paul’s decision did create a bit of last minute scrambling for me though. I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say that by the time that Paul and I arrived at the racing venue on Saturday we were late. The reason Frank hadn’t left the part out for me was that he hadn’t been able to find it before he left. He made a concerted effort to locate it when he returned Friday night and brought it with him that morning. My problem with that was that there was no time to make the change before racing started. Luck appeared to be with me in that the wind was light which would mean there wouldn’t be all that much strain on the distressed part. However. the light wind presented a far different problem in that Paul weighed about 35 pounds more than Elle and that extra weight would slow us down.

We managed to get to the starting line just before the race started. Paul was familiar with the type of boat we were racing but all his experience had been as a skipper and not as a crew. We had to work some things out as we raced and that didn’t help our performance either. The questionable part held up and we ended up finishing somewhere in the middle of the fleet. There was a break for lunch and we used the time to make the repair. The wind picked up during the break and by the time we headed for the starting line the usual afternoon Southerly had come in. Now Paul’s weight would come in handy to help hold the boat down and on a fairly level plane.

Having nothing to lose I chose to take what sailboat racers call a ”flyer“ at the start. A ”flyer“ is when a sailor takes an unconventional tack (chance) and sort of ignores what the majority of his competitors are doing. I had a real good knowledge of the local tidal currents and decided to try and take advantage of the incoming tide. As we were jockeying for the start I heard a lot of yelling and saw two boats had collided. I pressed on and took my ”flyer” going off on the opposite side of the course than the majority of the others. It paid off as we got to the first mark of the course in first place. With hard work we held the lead and crossed the finish line first... only we didn’t get the traditional cannon salute that winners usually received.

As we headed for shore I could see one boat still quite a ways back on the race course. What was really strange was that the boat was approaching the finish line from a different direction than I and the other boats right behind me had come from. I dismissed it as Paul and I celebrated sailed for the shore. Once there we received congratulations from some of the other sailors whose boats were launched from the beach. As all the local sailors launched their boats from the club marina I didn’t see any of them as we took the sails off and got ready to head back home. As we did we could hear and see some sort of commotion out on the beach in front of the clubhouse and dock. Curious, we walked towards it and I could see one of the local sailors (Peter) chasing one of the twins. She was wearing a white dress and not in sailing clothes. I wondered about that as I had seen both the girls earlier as we sailed out for the start.

After running around in circles while on the beach Peter trapped what turned out to be Pam on the dock. She had no where to run but out to the end. The dock was about 150 feet with a “T ” at the end. Peter caught her and it seemed like he picked her up like she was a feather. He walked to the edge of the dock with Pam on his shoulder and then he jumped in still holding her on his shoulder. It was pretty funny. When they came to the surface it was shallow enough for Peter to stand. Pam, on the other hand, had her dress up around her face and it was obvious she was in some difficulty. Peter was over six feet tall and Pam was no more than 5’ 4“ so there was no way for her to touch the bottom. Peter swam over to her and we all watched as he helped her pull her dress off over her head. Then she started swimming for shore as Peter walked in with the dress. By the time they started in more of the local sailors had made there way over from the marina. Steve, another local that I was friendly with had the ”scoop“ as to what this had been all about.

Peter and the twins had a long history of practical jokes that they played on each other. On this day Peter had reversed the lines that are used to hoist the sails up on the mast on the twin’s boat. With the way the locals launched their boats in the marina, doing this made for quite a hassle for the girls. I had mentioned that I had thought that two boats had collided prior to the start. One of them belonged to the twins and the boat had been damaged to the point that they couldn’t race it. When they hoisted it out of the water back at the marina they saw Peter’s boat trailer. They decided to hide it so that when he hauled it out he wouldn’t have a place to put it. Peter knew it had been the girls but the only one he saw was Pam. Pam had gone home and had changed for a party she was attending that night but had come back to the club to see the results and, unfortunately for her, Peter saw her.

As Pam approached the shore someone had gotten a beach towel to give her when she walked out of the water. But it was fairly shallow and she had to walk about 10 to 12 feet to get it. She was in just her bra and panties... and I was right in position to see her. She was wearing nylon panties and when nylon gets wet it becomes almost transparent. Mmmmm! There had to be at least 30 people there as she emerged from the water and she received a big cheer as she did. For me it was another good memory.

ALMOST SETTLED... and happy too (Part 62e)

The weekend following was the Territorial Championships which would qualify three area sailors for the National Championships. Even though there was no possible way that I could race in the Nationals I still wanted to compete in the Territorials. They were being held at the same club where I’d had my biggest sailing disappointment three years earlier when the Nationals were held there. In spite of that negative experience I liked sailing there and had made some good friends among the members including the twins, Pam and Penny.

There was a problem in that I discovered that a critical part that held the rudder to the hull of the boat had developed a serious crack. Before Frank had his new boat built by Rex, the local boat builder, he raced a boat that was built by the same boat builder as mine. He’d told me that he still had some spare parts from it and to let him know if I ever wanted them. I didn’t say ”yes“ and I didn’t say ”no“ when he offered them to me as I didn’t have any spare money. I still didn’t but I needed that part if I was to race on the weekend. I called him about it and he said he’d leave it out on his patio for me to pick up as he was leaving on a business trip. I didn’t really want to make a special trip to get it but really didn’t have a choice. That Tuesday, after supper, I drove down to Frank’s house and looked for the part but didn’t see it. The door was open and I could see into the kitchen. I called for his wife but there was no answer. I was upset that the part wasn’t there and without it I’d be taking a chance on really doing damage to my boat if it broke while racing. I called her name a few more times and then tried the screen door and found it was open. I wasn’t exactly comfortable just walking in but I was desperate for the part. I walked into the living room and saw Ronnie, Frank’s wife, sitting on the floor with her arm up on the sofa and her head resting on it. I called her name but didn’t get a response. When I looked on the end table I saw the reason. It was a half empty fifth of vodka. She was passed out.

I didn’t know what to do and as I was walking out I saw a door that appeared to go into the garage. I figured ”why not“ and opened it. I was partly right. It did lead to the garage but it was also a laundry room. Not one to walk past a washing machine with no one around I opened it. I didn’t see anything "interesting" but stuck my hand in anyway pulling out a handful of clothes. I could feel some dampness and quickly sorted through the small pile and found the clamdiggers that Ronnie had worn at the party. There wasn’t much light but when I held them up I could see the stain from when she’d wet herself on the patio. My brain went into overdrive and immediately I wanted to find the panties she’d been wearing when she did it. But I was worried that she might wake up so threw everything back in the washer and went to check on her. This whole episode probably took less than five minutes. Finding her still out cold I started back to the washer. I happened to look out the kitchen window and saw part of a wash line and a few bras. I went to the window and then saw something more interesting... panties. The immediate problem with that was I didn’t see a door to get out there.

I was frustrated at first but I didn’t give up. I went outside and walked around the outside of the garage and there was this tiny little space, probably no more than 10 feet by 20 feet, that made up the back yard. The wash line took up about half of it and on it I saw what I wanted. As I approached it and the panties two things jumped out at me... the waist elastic and the crotch. I’d seen the waist elastic the night that the sailing group had been at the bowling alley and I'd noticed it on the panties Ronnie was wearing. It was also very similar to the waist elastic on Elise’s panties that I’d picked up at the meeting hall back at the park. But I could easily see that they weren’t made by the same manufacturer. The crotch was way higher in both the front and back than Elise’s Shadowline panties. There was also one other slight difference in that they weren’t as opaque. I remember my heart pounding as it was still daylight and here I was, a stranger, at the wash line. I could see the house right behind Frank's through the hedge and just couldn’t bring myself to take a pair or to even check out who had made them. I just went back to my car and headed home without the part or a pair of panties. So close...

I beat myself up all the way home. I was mad because I’d chickened out on the panties and even madder that I’d lost focus on picking up the needed part. I told myself I could get it on Friday night when I would go pick up the boat but my chance for seeing the panties again was lost. I lay awake for a long time that night.

As if the lack of a part wasn’t enough Elle got her period the next day. She’d raced one day with it and was a mess when it was over. The combination of incontinence and a period is not pretty. She just shook her head when she told me. Initially, I took it as an omen saying that it really wasn’t meant for me to sail that weekend. It was Elle who came up with the idea of trying to reach Paul, the old friend who was home on leave, to see if he would be willing to crew for me. I had to have my father walk down to his parents house to get in touch with him. When he called he wasn’t all that thrilled with the idea as his leave was almost up and he wanted to spend the time with his wife. I told him to think about it and call me by Friday.

When I didn’t hear from him by lunch time on Friday I pretty much gave up hope. I was seeding the new pads when this car stopped out in the road. I didn’t recognize it but as I stared at it I knew I’d seen the face of the girl in the passenger seat. It took a few seconds before realizing that it was Paul’s wife. He’d left it up to her to decide and she’d said it was OK. I was happy!

ALMOST SETTLED... and happy too (Part 62d)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I’ll go back to a time line for the weekends now. It’s fairly easy as I have reference material relating to the sailboat racing to refer to.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was just regular Sunday club racing the weekend following the area championships. What was memorable was the Saturday night party. Elle wasn’t really too happy about going fearing there would be some pointed reference to her wet pants on Saturday. I, on the other hand, wanted to discuss my disqualification from the previous weekend with the older, seasoned sailors. It was still bothering me. The party was at Frank’s house which was really nothing more than a Summer bungalow. It did have a nice big front yard and Frank, to appease his neighbors for the potential noise, invited them as well. It was definitely the biggest party of the Summer.

It was obvious that his wife, Ronnie (the former beauty queen) was well on her way to being drunk when we arrived. It was so puzzling to see her this way and to watch Frank, who didn’t drink at all, feed her drink after drink. She was wearing a pair of clamdigger pants (which she filled nicely) and a halter top. All the guys were definitely looking at her butt, me included. But I really wanted to talk with Doug and Chuck, the two most experienced racers in the club. It took a while to get them together and away from the others. I explained what had happened and they thought I was kidding. Neither had ever heard of the rule that I had supposedly broken and they went and found Will (another club sailor) who had once been on the National rules committee. He told us that there was no such rule right up to the time he left the committee, about three years prior. Other than the principle of the thing, it didn’t really matter since I won anyway. But hearing their input I felt somewhat vindicated.

With the four of us away from the mainstream party it was interesting to watch various interactions between the others. All of a sudden we watched a group of people suddenly rush to someone who had fallen. We followed and saw that it was Ronnie. It certainly didn’t surprise me. Frank rushed over and helped her up and over to a chaise on the patio. I remember shaking my head as he fetched her another drink.

Elle, Buddy, Carol, Ruthann and Jimbo had found a few chairs and were sitting out on the lawn just in front of the patio. When I joined them I couldn’t find another vacant chair so I stood behind Elle. From that position I could see Ronnie lying on the chaise and it looked like she was passed out. A little while later I saw her roll off the chaise and onto the ground. I mustv'e been the first one to see her because no one made any attempt to help her. When I got there there was a puddle under the chaise. When I tried to help her up she mumbled something that I didn’t understand. As I got her up and back onto the chaise Frank and a couple of other people arrived. I backed away and Frank proceeded to tell her to stay on the chaise and not to move. As drunk as she was I couldn’t understand why he didn’t take her inside. When I got back to the group I heard someone ask if she’d ”pissed herself“. I looked back over to where she was and the puddle was directly under where her butt was positioned on the chaise. I felt the rush of a bulge and couldn’t believe that I’d been that close to her (and the puddle) not to have realized what she’d done. Actually, I was mad that I hadn’t seen the creation of the puddle since the spotlight on the house shone directly on it. So close and yet so far.

As I said it was only club racing the next day. I don’t remember how we did. Since I’d missed the first races of the season and was not in contention for the season long prizes it wasn't important to me. What I do remember from that day was that one of my old sailing friends (Paul) from when I first started racing showed up with his new wife. He was in the ROTC program in college and was now home on leave. He decided to come to the club to see who was still around. His wife was definitely worth a second look and most of the guys were taking more than one. He hadn’t raced or sailed in a couple of years and it was obvious he really wanted to get back out on the water. One of the regular guys wasn’t feeling all that well (the party the night before?) and wasn’t going to race. He offered to let Paul take his boat out to introduce his wife to sailing. As I've explained before, to put these boats in the water you had to hand carry them from the trailer out into the water. Then the crew, Elle in my case, would wade out into the water to hold it until all the boats were launched. For Elle that was perfect because her shorts would get wet and would hide the ”damage“ if she had to pee. In Paul’s case it was his wife who got the duty. They were both wearing "regular" clothes and not really prepared to go sailing. She was a bit hesitant about getting them wet as well as the idea of sailing itself. The first time I actually paid attention to her was when she tried to get into the boat. The water was calm but somehow she’d walked the boat out to where the water was up to her chest which made it hard to get in. When she tried to get into the boat she had difficulty and got stuck with her wet butt staring right at me. A VPL, especially when wet, has always been a favorite of mine. I don’t remember her name but I do remember her nice, firm butt with the crotch line standing right out.
