Update #2

Update #2

We're back home for a few days. Our daughter is now stable and the Dr's are trying to come up with the combination of heart drugs that she will need in addition to the LVAD pump. The earliest for the operation now appears to be after the 1st of September. This week will be one of trial and error as far as the drugs are concerned. As I stated in an earlier update she's confounding the Dr's on one of the drugs that they feel are key to keeping her heart healthy. When they give it to her it makes her blood pressure go lower when it should help increase it. On Friday, after receiving the medicine, her BP went down to 58 over 42. By last night it was up to 82 over 56 and holding pretty steady. When you consider that 'normal' for most people is 120 over 80 you can get some idea of the situation. She was not in any danger because they have about 10 wires and or tubes in her and she is monitored constantly. When the low reading showed up a cardiac nurse appeared almost instantaneously and turned some dial on an intravenous drip. She stayed and watched until the pressure started going back up. After chatting with our daughter and the cardiac doctor in the ICU we decided to come back home. She's able to get up and out of bed and to sit in a chair as well as to feed herself now. We'll wait to hear when the pump will be inserted and then go back for who knows how long. So... unless something untoward happens I'll soon be back to posting again.

I'd like to thank "Lurker" for his nice comments and I hope to see him post again. As always, thanks to my friends, OB and BS for their continued upbeat thoughts and support. It means a lot!

That's good news that her condition is more stable now. I'm sure you and Elle were feeling pretty stressed out. I think that we ourselves are one of the things that keeps medical cures so elusive. We all seem to react a little differently to medication and treatment so there can never be a cure all that fits everyone. I'm sure they'll get things sorted for her though. I'll be thinking of you and the family.

What are friends for, but encouragement in dark times

BS & OB... Thanks, again, guys! I got word tonight that she'll be moved from the ICU tomorrow but still no word on when the pump will be installed. When we get the date we'll be off, once again. Until then, I'll continue to post.
